You allowed the charges to mount month on month.
There were some extenuating circumstances. See the OP's other thread from last month (and updated this evening so on this first page now).

Thanks YB. Also thank you to O4U for your apology.

Just to give some backstory, my father passed away in april, in Australia. i had been back and forth looking after him. When away, i could not easily check my balance. Also when he died there were quite a few unprecedented expenses, which put me in the position in the first place.

I have a high DI. It had been a long time since i had been anywhere near in the kind of trouble i had found myself in. Credit report was clean and in good health, apart from 1 CCJ i found out about 2 months ago, that DVLA have agreed to remove. And an old vodafone account mistakenly defaulted which has also been removed.

I have a great budget, and i stick to it. Im more than happy to PM this to anyone who wants to see it.
But the amount of expenses occured during/after my dads death was enough to overwhelm my finances and put me in a 'tailspin' of charges. The way that HSBC make their charges meant that things got very bad very quickly.

Thankfully the BM understood and refunded all my charges. f2f and branch managers are wonderful, but the telephone service is terrible.

Still wondering if there is anything i can do about this. I dont blame HSBC, but theyre making things very difficult for me in my time of need, and i just want to speak to someone who isnt rude, doesnt make assumptions, takes the time to listen and understand the whole story, and try to help me *mitigate* the financial distress my fathers death has had on my finances.

Maybe it's time to put pen to paper, rather than speaking?

Yes, thank you. i already did that, but despite the page saying they will answer within 5 days, after i wrote in te box and clicked 'send' the website then said "thank you for your feedback we cannot respond to all queries' ....

    !!!

Just hope they do. tbh i am tempted to move to Barclays anyway as i hear their call centres are better and UK-Based. Also i think their charges are more sensible. But am worried about what the '1' means on my account now.

If you don't get anywhere maybe try writing to one of the money sections in the Sunday papers they quite often can get things moving.

Although it's an option on the complaints page, it's just a basic feedback/opinion form. For a complaint such as yours, it's far better to write using snail mail. Step 2, referenced above, gives...

The OP has had £600 of charges so must have had a few issues with the recent running of their account, £600 was in the account on the day the charges where called in, the bank took the money, after you explained the situation the bank refunded the charges, probably because when a person in the bank rather than the computer reviewed the account they felt they should cut the OP a bit of slack.

This doesn't get away from the fact that the loan payment was missed, it doens't matter why it was missed, just that it was missed, unfortunately that is a fact.
Thousands of people find themselves in positions not of their own making everyday, this doesn't mean that if they are late or miss a payment that it shouldn't be recorded.

If you had spoken to most callcentre staff regardless of which bank they worked for as you have replied to posts on this forum they would probably have hung up aswell. Just because somebody works in a UK based call centre doesn't make them more likely to listen to a customers problems.

"Wow, how unbelievably, unnecessarily rude of you.

Unless youve been in my situation, you cannot POSSIBLY make any kind of judgement, you simply dont have enough knowledge to do so, though you obviously think you do.

The bank refunded my charges. ALL OF THEM. that should be good enough for you. "

This post above illustrates my point, his post was factual based on the information given in this thread, why would anybody research all previous posts by a poster on a forum before posting a reply, people are put in difficult situations everyday, and from what you have added later on in the thread you have had a bereavement, that still doesn't mean that a missed or late payment shouldn't be noted on your credit file, it happened, why it happened is a different issue all together, I believe you can add information to this entry on your credit file to allow other companies to more closely examine the late payment.

To conclude, one missed payment on your credit file may reduce your credit score slightly, but as you are experiencing some financial problems this may be no bad thing, as it will prevent you from getting more financial commitments when you are going through emotional upheaval.

If you don't experience some setbacks in life how can you ever grow emotionally. Just my two-pence worth.

Just read your other thread, I would be more worried about the CCJ than a 1 on a credit file, but still don't see how after reading your other comments you can blame the bank for this, i think they have acted responsibly and reasonably.

Also you where able to secure a loan from WF with the CCJ on there, a CCJ is viewed as more detrimental to your credit score than a late payment as far as I am aware.
