Car mis-sold!?!!

Hi, november last year I bought a car from a local dealer, this dealer has been trading for many years with three garages in the area and is very popular and trusted.

Bought a 2004 Corsa for £3600,

Anyway, looking at part ex quotes as I plan to upgrade to the new shape, so rang one company for a part ex quote, only to be informed that this car was imported in 2008.

Now i don't know if this is true or not, but I have noticed things to be a bit dodgy when looking up this car, i.e. car crafts part ex system doesn't recognise my number plate, but i can get insurance fine..

At the time of sale i was not informed it was an import, i did a check on the car using my car check and all was fine..

What rights do i have here?

Thanks.

Where would it have been imported from? I guess Eire and perhaps Cyprus.

But from anywhere else it would be an Opel.

Have you been to a main dealer?

Even if the car is a grey import, it is possible that the dealer that sold you the car was not aware of the fact.

You need to establish for certain that it is a grey import before doing anything else.
  • Ring vauxhall with the chassis number and see what they say first of all.

Secondly don't go anywhere near car craft.

Lastly it is unlikely that you have a case for being missold the car unless it was specifically stated one way or another at the time.
Its unlikely to make a huge amount of difference on a £2k corsa anyway. However still no harm in tackling the dealer with it and see what they come up with but i wouldn't put a load of energy and time into it.

Ok, thanks for the replies, how can I found out if it was imported for sure?

What does grey import mean? a car thats imported but is of uk spec anways, i.e from a country with right hand drive?
  • It's my understanding a grey import would be a car thats not avaliable in the UK. A parallel import was a car that is avaliable in the UK and is to UK spec?
So worse case scenario, it would be a parallel import.

Could just be a NI car.

Ahem ring Vauxhall with the chassis No. Vauxhall HQ not the garage down the road.

We're you told that it was not imported? but even if it is I don't understand the problem.

Utterly meaningless. It could have had a legitimate registration change.Parts systems aren't hooked up to DVLA and they're far from infallible.

A " grey import " is a car that was not to the exact same specification as a car that was destined for the UK from new.

Many grey imports were sold by companies such as Motorpoint.
