That is quite correct I'm afraid.
It is the US version only and will not open or convert UK files (due to Fiscal rules enbodied in the programme/file)
This is very bad news for someone like myself who has to keep an old windows xp machine (still the best o/s they ever made but that's another story) jyust to keop my money files available for tax inspection.
My versions of money don't work on vista (what does?)
So it looked like a great idea but.....
.....doesn't actually work or so it seems.

I have tried renaming the file but that doesn't work either..if you find a workaround please let me know!

Have you tried to run it in compatibility mode?

Information can be found here : http://money.mvps.org/faq/article/514.aspx
  • The simple bill interface on money offers cheque, does your verson have an advanced option as this enables direct debit etc.

I can do the monthly payment calendar for DDs etc , in fact, everything I need. It's just that in the current a/c I set up in the account manager I have to change the cheque no to 'switch'. It's no big deal, I suppose, but just wondered if there had ever been updates to the UK version.

I've got Quicken 98 and it won't convert my Quicken files. Quicken 98 still works with Windows 7 though.

Be aware, these are being given away because all support for them ends in January when it effectively becomes an obsolete program. Not necessarily a bad thing, just something to be aware of.

The links to the downloads are at the bottom of the page (dunno what the differences are between the two versions feature wise though)

I have used MS money for years now and could not live with out. It must as saved me a fortune on Bank charges . I started to use it when i had money going missing out of my bank account, I found out someone had robbed me of £500. I use MS money to log every penny I earn and spend

This is not needed if your already running Microsoft Money UK.

The reason the Sunset version is being pushed out in the US is because the US version requires online activation and Microsoft are doing away with this in February 2001. So potentially, if you bought a new PC and then wanted to re-install US MS Money, you couldn't.

The UK version isn't restricted in that it requires activation, so there's no fear of not being able to re-install in the future.

I've been using MS Money since 1996. I know to the penny whats in my accounts, what my credit cards bills will be, remaining mortgage, pension. Even annual bills like car MOT's and taxes.

Don't know how I'd cope without it.
  • I've used MS Money since version 1 (when Microsoft gave it away) and am now up to version 14 (dated 2004).

I use it for both my personal and company accounts and would not be without it, it's a brilliant piece of software. I tried Quicken but found MS Money easier to use.

The only functionality that I miss is the ability to produce and track invoices (which I believe that the US Home and Business version provides). However, the (free) Starter Edition of Quickbooks provides this, so at least I have something to use.

    Folks,

Until about 30 minutes ago I was confused about all the conflicting information re the 'sunset' edition of MS Money, and IF and HOW we UK users could install and use this sensibly.

Well, it was a piece of cake.

Just take the download from the Microsoft site (plus I would suggest a separate download of the help files).

Load it to your machine - somewhere in a directory where it will NOT conflict with any existing MS Money program. I was actually transferring from a previous PC.

Run the set-up and get o the opening page.
Change the default currency to UK pounds.

'Back-up' your existing MS Money file onto a stick or CD.

Insert your stick/CD and use 'restore from Back-up option'.

Hey Ho - it's all there where it should be - Balances / History / Standing Orders etc etc.

This has to have been the simplest migration of any Microsoft product EVER - It did not even blink

Note: New PC runs Win 7 (64bit) - old machine was XP.

Oh - but get the download soon, before end Jan 2011. They are planning to delete all support etc from end of month.

    regards
    John
