Excessive Data charge - Virgin HTC Desire
I have just had my latest bill and it includes £77 data charges on my "Ulimited" data package.
I have just checked my bill and pretty much every morning I turn my phone on it shows 40/50/60 mb of data usage. 2 things spring to mind, 1. The phone is only updating friendstream, checking for emails (usually get about 3 and thats limited to 5kb each)
2 The phone is connected to WIFI at home during these times.
Why is my phone using this much data?
Virgin will not budge stating I am connected to this internet and to do this I must log in so there is no way my phone can do it. The problem is they don't understand how this phone works. They can not tell me what my phone is doing and are pretty much unhelpful.
I am waiting for the supervisors supervisor to call me back - if that ever happens.
Any advise on how to fight this and secondly, how do I tell what the hell my phone is doing with this data usage?

I have mine on wifi at home, and since 27th July, it's only used 90.94 mb in total on mobile internet. You need to download an app like 3g Watchdog or Net Counter. You also need to go to Menu, Settings, Accounts and Sync, and check what is synching and when.0 -
How often is it checking for mail ? and is it doing it 24/7 (even when you're not at home?).
Even if there's no mail to send or receive it has to send the log in info each time it checks, that can mount up over a month. . .0 -

Read your contract and learn how to use your phone, not much else to it really. Why do you think the charge is excessive? Have they charged you more than you agreed to in the contract?I've given up trying to get my signature to work with the new rules, if nobody knows what the rules are what hope do we have?0

3G Watchdog got me out of a similar situation with Three a couple of months ago. I can heartily recommend it.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j
