It's a bit worrying that the myth regarding 112 is being perpetuated.
It's true that 112 is the European emergency number and that you can usually dial it without unlocking your keypad. This explains why so many emergency calls from mobiles are dialled accidentally.
However, in the UK dialling 112 has exactly the same effect as dialling 999 and the call will be answered by the same operator. It's the same with landlines, although the operator will probably be a little surprised to receive the call. A few years ago, a BT operator told me that he only received one or two genuine (as opposed to misidalled) 112 calls per year.
If there's no coverage from your own network, the call won't be carried by another one.0
