iphone 3gs unlock

hi i have an iphone 3gs which i have bought 2nd hand that is locked to orange. However i have found that the reception for orange is terrible at home ..can i get the phone unlocked to any network? i have researched this and some people are saying that it is not yet possible but the 'man on the market' says he can!!

4th and 5th digits of serial number 02

Yes you can, I unlocked my o2 locked iPhone for free after owning the phone for 12 months. So I guess you should be able to do the same with Orange providing it is more than 12 months old.

i didn't have the contract with orange though, will they still unlock it for me?

If the phone was previously in a contract, I can see no harm in asking.

Otherwise get it jailbroken

I did it recently on my 3gs on software version 4.0.1, so your version would probalby be fine also....and it was free.

Google search on "jailbreakme" (1 word) and also type that into u-tube and see the method in action.

Once jailbroken, there is an app called cydia (cant remember the spelling exactly) though which you unlock the phone.....again u-tube is of great help on this.

Dont upgrade to version 4.0 as a lot of people are having problems with phone crashing/loss of signal etc when upgrading the operating system....Neil

Then open cydia and manage - sources - edit - add then enter http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com once thats done go to search and search for ultrasn0w and install your then unlocked

done it -was dead simple, only thing is i got a message saying 'could not activate cellular data network' and now i have 'no service' in the top corner and cannot make a call!! any ideas what i did wrong??
