the MSG in stock cubes surprised me in the old thread - finally used up what we had in the cupboard and bought new stock cubes this week. after reading all of the ingredients lists in the supermarket, i was pleased to find 3 options that didn't use MSG at all (not that i can remember what brands they were!!) - i was really pleased to have a choice!:happyhear0

I think i've seen the bottled stuff but didnt give it a second look as I was expecting powder! I will have another look, may even venture out to an asda somewhere!
I'll still use this onion powder for things like bangers and mash though as its not bad at all!:D0 -
Was in Morrisons today and looked at the Goldenfry gravy mix mentioned earlier in this post.
Main ingredient is Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil........
Needless to say it was put hastily back onto the shelf.0 -
I have been slowly cutting down on any salt I use and now find gravy granules too salty, wondered if any one knew of a low salt version that tasted ok.

I used to use this and it was always absolutely delicious, but I used the powder and not the granules. I stopped using it because it had monosodium glutamate in it (I think this is what it had in it!) and Bisto doesn't.
I used to find it difficult to find too, Ticklemouse.
What exactly is the hydrogenised veg oil?0 -

I looked at the Goldenfry granules (not powder). Can't remember if I looked at the onion as well, but the chicken and beef granules definitely had Hydrogentated vegetable oil as their main ingredient.0 -

A cheap and nasty fat found in many processed foods.

I use Onion Gravy Powder from GoldenFry - it DOESNT contain Hydronated Veg oil or MSG.
Its the best additive free gravy I have found (Unless you go to a health shop and that stuff costs a fortune).0
