Are the airport lounges worth it??
Never used them but some people i've spoken to have said they are great....... what do you lot on here think??
We are flying from East Mids next week and its £16pp for the lounge, we'd probably only get 1 and a half hours in there.
Thanks
Nikki

If you buy a sandwich and a cup of coffee at the airport you will be lucky to get change from a tenner so I would say £16 is a fair price as it usually includes alcoholic drinks. I used to have a Diners Club Card just for the free lounge access but they cut it right back so I dumped the card.0

What time of day will you be in there? If you are wanting to have a large lunch or evening meal before you fly it wouln't be any good - generally the lounges only have snacks (fruit/crisps/biscuits etc). They are OK for breakfast though - the one I've used at Manchester a few times had croissants, toast and even porridge.
I think £16 is worth it just to have somewhere quiet to sit, and you do get as many drinks as you like (not that I normally make the most of the free alcohol!!).Common sense just isn't that common any more....0 -
At East Mids it gives you a quiet surrounding with papers/ magazines/ tv.
Unlimited bar which you help yourself to. Crisps/ nuts/ cheese & biscuits/ cake
If you are likely to buy a couple of drinks anyway whilst at the airport, it's worth it in my opinion for a comfy seat in a relaxing place!0 -
Flying at 8:30am, check in opens at 6:30am so would prob get to the lounge at 7ish.
I'd like to use the lounge but its persuading my other half - he doesn't think its cost efficient, £32 for both (obviously)0 -
I have considered the lounges in the past but have decided against it because imo, once you have checked in and gotten through security then had a look round the shops you don't have that long to wait before you go to your departure gate.
For me £32 to sit quietly for an hour and have a 'free' drink and snack isn't worth it. Others will have different views. If you were unlucky to have a long delay it may prove to be a silver lining though......0 -
Me & my hubby used the servisair lounge in manchester airport at about 6.30am earlier in the year when we went to Egypt.
Yes is was quiet, free newspapers and coffee, tv on the wall but we struggled to get a seat together and there was deffinatly no toast or croissants. There was cereal ,cereal bars fruit and yogurt
We personally didnt think it was worth £32 however if it was later in the day maybe we would have made use of the bar0 -
At that time in the morning I wouldn't bother TBH, the airport isn't going to be busy, you won't be drinking alcohol, so really it's £16 for a coffee and biscuits.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

With the above times, i would say that it isn't worth paying for it.
If you get to the lounge for 7.00am, your going to have to leave the lounge about 7.45am, that's allowing 15 mins for you to get to your gate, and you do have to be at your gate 30mins before you board.
I personally wouldn't pay that, i'd rather just have a cup of coffee at the airport and then spend the £32 when i get on holiday, have you looked at your departure airport, as ours manchester, has some good offers on, buy a coffee get a coffee free, and loads of other vouchers.0 -
I think it's worth it at breakfast - you'd easily spend £10 each in starbucks, and have to queue for ages too! I would check that the lounge is open that early (it probably is), and that you don't have to get to the gate earlier than usual.
When I went to NY in March with my friends, we checked in a 6am, thinking we would have a good couple of hours in the lounge (were flying at 8.30am), but because of increased security checks on US flights, they were getting everyone to be at the gate for 6.30am! We still stayed in the lounge until 7am, but we didn't get the very relaxing experience we had been looking forward too.
I wouldn't want the same to happen to you, or give your OH any reason to say 'I told you so'!!
As long as the times work out OK, I'd say go for it

That's because Starbucks is way overpriced!
