Hi

I am due to take out a new contract, and I'm torn between a few samsung phones: Galaxy S, Wave and Jet Ultra. Any advice about any of these phones would be greatly appreciated, as I keep swapping and changing my mind

Thanks Vicki

Hi, I've recently upgraded my phone with Vodafone and the first handset they sent me was the Samsung Wave. I have to say, the build of the Wave is sheer quality as it has aluminium casing all the way round the phone and really feels nice to hold. The screen is very clear and defined and the super AMOLED works a treat in any light. It takes the same quality High Definition video and pictures as the Galaxy S which I was very impressed with and beats the HTC desire by a long way. It runs Samsung's own BADA OS which seemed to operate without any lag or other problems when I used it. The ONLY thing I wasn't too sure about was the future support for the BADA operating system as it's still very new and Samsung has a bit of a reputation for their lack of support in general. Overall though, a very, very good phone and an impressive effort from Samsung on their first attempt at a mobile OS.

I ended up sending this phone back even though I loved the premium feel and look of the handset and the UI. This was because I suddenly realised that I couldn't download any Apps for it due to the BADA OS; the Samsung App store doesn't really have a lot to offer compared to the Android market of the Galaxy S. In the end I swapped the phone for the Galaxy S as this phone has the best hardware of any phone on the market right now and it knocks spots of my work phone which is an HTC Desire. I've got all the free Apps I need thanks to the huge selection available on the Android App market and I can now watch my HD video on my fantastic 4 inch AMOLED screen which has to be seen to be believed. Although the build quality of the handset is not as good as the Wave the phone handles everything I throw at it thanks to the superior 'Hummingbird' processor and dedicated graphics processor inside the phone. When my friend, who owns an iphone 4 saw my phone, he was so impressed that he sent his handset back and exchanged it for the Galaxy S as he loved the idea of having a much lighter, more powerful phone with a bigger screen which plays any video format straight out of the box! The great thing about the Android OS which the phone runs on is that it is an open platform which means that you tinker with it until you get the UI that best suits you. They are also constantly working on updates to improve performance of the OS and so you are more likely to get better support with this handset. Overall I would recommend this phone to anyone who is thinking of upgrading to a smart phone and doesn't want to pay an extortionate amount of money for an isheep (iphone).

Galaxy S is brilliant, absolutely great.

Wave is cheaper and more pocket-friendly but will have limited apps to have fun with.

Forget about the Jet, had one for a while, nice size, but compared to the other two, there is no comparison.

thankyou for all your responses. My first instinct was the Galaxy S, but I done the worst thing and looked around and got myself all confused!!! So as you can imagine, after reading all your comments it's not going to be hard to persuade me back again. I've always stuck with Samsung, they do great phones at great prices. Now just need to get working on a deal when I cancel my old contract ;-)

ATM the best deal I've seen so far is through Dial A Phone on Orange network (never been on Orange before). It's 600mins, unlimited texts, unlimited internet, unlimited email for £32.50 per month.

You can get the similar deal but with 500mins, 500mb internet and half price line rental for 6 months for £35 per month (overall cost over the 18 months works out at £29 per month), but A) I need 600 mins minimum, and B) can't be doing with the redemtion to claim the half price line rental, just to save £3 per month.

I'll be making my final decision on Wednesday, when I cancel my contract with O2, so will let you know
