All you have to do is put dried lavender in a bag and then place it in a tin full of sugar, it must be dry or it will go lumpy. You can grind a small amount of Lavender very finely and add it later. Tastes great when you do it with castor sugar and sprinkle it on cakes and shortbread.
English lavender is best. The French varieties tend not to have as much scent.
Cheers all, handy.
Silly question, what kind of bag and do I keep it sealed when it goes in the sugar? I don't use sugar for much, only baking, so that sounds good.Yes you can make Lavendar Jelly Looloo, amongst other things. Lavendar can be used whenever herbs are called for in a recipe. Also can be used to make cleansing agents etc for the skin. I also make little cushions of it to stuff in drawers, wardrobes, pillows etc. It really does have hundreds of uses. If i can get time this afternoon, i'll put together some things and post it.
For now, here's Lavendar tea.....
1 teaspoon dried lavender flowers
1 tablespoon ordinary English Breakfast tea
A squeeze of fresh lemon
Sugar or honey to your taste
To prepare... Pour boiling water over the tea leaves and lavender and allow to steep for five to ten minutes depnding how strong you like it. Add lemon, strain it then add sugar or honey.
Does it have to be the flowers? That sounds really nice though. I didn't realise lavender could be used like any other herb (doh) so I might try experimenting.
If anyone's near Leeds you're welcome to come and get some!
I'm no good at gardening either, my neighbours do it for me. None of us really have gardens, but I've got a big raised bed, and my neighbours did the work for the guy who lived here before so it's carried on.
This weather's doing my head in, I was really cold so I got out my new slanket, and now I'm too hot. I just wish it'd make it's mind up!Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
Thank you for this post from a newbie!!! I will just add that I only joined last night
I made a post last night and got attacked by Trolls!!! I deleted the text of my message and explained to other users why I removed it and I got attacked again! I copied the etiquette rules to remind the Trolls and proceeded in clicking the report button! I did however tell them I had done this. They made me feel awful about my situation as they had tried to be-little me in what they were saying. However since that horrible first experience I had browsed through the debt free wannabe and seen loads of similar situations to mine and found myself still hereI also noticed how friendly all the posted seem in this part of the site.......thanks again

Hi Smilingnow
Hopefully you will find that the DFW section of the forum is a more friendly place. And the vast majority of people are here to try to help people.
Some will do that with more or less tact but generally people do want to help. If you need support and or advice then I am glad you have decided to stick around, do post a new thread on the DFW section and see if people can help.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

Thanks for your reply......As it happens I am currently on a DMP, although I do pay a monthly fee for it, but I had issues with a payday lender and more than anything wanted to let off steam and warn other people about them!!!
Is there anyway my original post can be deleted?0 -
