Morning (just). Not got much planned today.
Erme, do you have any tips on what I can do with lavender? My plants have gone a bit mad! You mentioned lavender tea, I'd love to try that. Anything else I can cook with it'd be great.Sunnylooloo wrote: »Send me some to plant in my garden!!
Can't you make lavender jam? or am I making that up??
Try Lavender Sugar, its got a subtle taste, you smell it more than taste it. All you have to do is put dried lavender in a bag and then place it in a tin full of sugar, it must be dry or it will go lumpy. You can grind a small amount of Lavender very finely and add it later. Tastes great when you do it with castor sugar and sprinkle it on cakes and shortbread.
English lavender is best. The French varieties tend not to have as much scent.
Cheers all, handy.Mother Nature Don't Draw Straight lines, We are Broken Moulds in Life's Grand Design, We look a Mess but we're doing fine,

Yes you can make Lavendar Jelly Looloo, amongst other things. Lavendar can be used whenever herbs are called for in a recipe. Also can be used to make cleansing agents etc for the skin. I also make little cushions of it to stuff in drawers, wardrobes, pillows etc. It really does have hundreds of uses. If i can get time this afternoon, i'll put together some things and post it.
For now, here's Lavendar tea.....
1 teaspoon dried lavender flowers
1 tablespoon ordinary English Breakfast tea
A squeeze of fresh lemon
Sugar or honey to your taste
To prepare... Pour boiling water over the tea leaves and lavender and allow to steep for five to ten minutes depnding how strong you like it. Add lemon, strain it then add sugar or honey. If you can, help others; if you cannot do that, at least do not harm them~Dalai LamaHow people treat you is their karma; how you react is yours~Wayne DyerLet none find fault in others. Loving all the lavender ideas and it is so good to help you sleep.
I used to love having it in my garden and see all the lovely bumble bees buzzing round it.
I am on garden clearing duty maybe i will treat myself to some lavender (although have to be careful with the dog as has a tendancy to go and see what that big black and yellow fuffy thing is and a couple of times has ended up stung on the nose! luckily she not allergic to bee or wasp stings!)
I'm not a great gardener........ in fact I don't like doing it at all but I love sitting in a lovely garden. Mine is a real tip - basically as we have the house on the market I have lost all enthusium....... I am hiring a jet wash over the bank holiday weekend and will give it a good going over - mainly patio (full of WEEDS!) with a few flower beds - same at the front. any tips..... apart from save up and get someone in to do it for me!!The worst cliques are those which consist of one man ~ George Bernard Shaw
