Just a quick bit of advice ;)

I have recently finished working as an Employment Advisor, and, to access funding for clients we referred those in receipt of benefits to their said advisor back at Jobcentre Plus.....

The funding which you need to ask for is the Advisory Discretionary Fund (ADF). Although you do not have a 'right' to any of it (capped at £300 per person, per 12mths), if you can prove just cause for wanting to have a slice of it, i.e helping you gain successful employment then the advisor may ask their line manager to rubber stamp it :T ** Be aware though that JCP usually ask you to provide evidence of a job offer BEFORE any unusual requests for ADF are granted **

It's usually/predominantly used for interview clothes, 1st months bus pass etc BUT I guess it's worth asking the question!!!!

Thing is, and as others have previously mentioned here - you will be challenged as to why you cannot simply get a job which does not require a newly qualified driver (as you'll be very limited no doubt?). Basically, just any other job......

I wish you the best of luck anyhow in whichever direction you choose - and speak to your personal advisor politely, not with an expectation either! :p

BTW, persevere with the driving lessons. If you have extended family members, have you thought about doing chores/odd-jobs which could be rewarded with more lessons? Or sell something on ebay you no longer need/hold a car boot sale....

After successfully passing your test (which fingers crossed will be at your next attempt) DO THE PASS PLUS. Yes, it's a ball ache at £120 (I think) but it is six more lessons encompassing other conditions, such as night driving/motorway etc, Which will handily result in the equivalant of a years no claims bonus (NCB) - that will pay itself back instantly anyway :D

Good luck with the job search and driving,
    Stephen ;)

Go into the army, once you got recruited passed the their standard test you will be able to get full funding for driving. My friend joined as a medic, once he was in they paid full for his learning.

Sorry, OP, but if you cannot afford the driving test then you cannot simply afford to run a car.

Unless you plan to do what some people do, pass you test and buy a banger, not insure it putting the cost of our insurance up to people who do pay it, not MOT it and maybe buy the Tax so that you don't get caught right away!!!

Seriously though, if you cannot afford the driving test, you cannot afford to run a car of any shape or form

Perhaps the OP is having a family member teach them to drive, and this is where the problem is? Whenever I have seen people on driving tests doing badly, they're usually in non-driving school cars and were presumably taught by family members.

If only it were that easy. Very few jobs around and hundreds of people applying for the same job. Employer always wants the best of the best and this often means many people are excluded from the world of work, particularly those with disabilities or without experience.

However I would agree driving is not a right and if you can't afford it you can't. Maybe look at other spending, particularly smoking and alcohol which often account for a great deal of young people's spending these days.

Royal Mail used to pay for their non-driver employees to learn to drive. This was about ten years ago, mind.. so I don't know if they still do this.

another thing you will need to think about is insurance when you do pass. this isnt cheap anymore and another thing that will require a bit more than a test fee. so if you cant afford the test fee you have no chance of insuring the vehicle. Pretty much catch 22 situation need a car to get work but need work to pay for the car. I would rely on public transport or a bike get a few weeks wages then start thinking of the test
