Advise desperatly needed. Have i been ripped off?

Kwik fit are a Bunch of cowboys

I needed a new exhaust as mine had fallen off and phoned them and they checked the make and model (fiat punto, year 2000) number of the car and advised the price would be £90.

Got down their (20 miles away) and they advised their were 2 types of exhaust for my type of car and it would actually cost £240.00. Why not check when i called?

They did do it for £200 after i took out their finance card (paid off straight away) and i always felt something wasnt right but never complained.

But the OP agreed to the extra work being done. Just because it wasn't what he went in for doesn't mean it didn't need doing.

A few years back my brakes were making a scraping noise, i was 15 miles from home so popped in teh Kwik Fit so they could have a look, they told me my front disks were knackered and it was dangerous to drive the car and i should have the disks and brake pads changed immediately at a cost of £350 !

Anyways i could'nt afford it so drove home very very slowly and took it into my local mechanic and the fault was a tone caught between the disk and pads, cost to sort out £0

I would never ever trust these fast fit places and they all work on comission so its in there intrest to make up jobs so they get more money in there pay packet :mad:

Friend of ours replaced the disk's and brake pads on his MIL car, couple of week's later MIL thought it was making funny noise so went to her local KwikFit to be checked, one cup of coffee later and back came the diagnosis, your brake disks are shot to pieces, very dangerous to drive etc, you need new brake shoes, a new front shock as the old one is bust and your exhaust needs replacing, cost £400+.
Sensibly she was a bit worried about the brake story as they had just been replaced so phoned her SIL and reported what KwikFit were saying, his workplace was not far away so he told her to stay there and he would come over, when he arrived he played dumb and asked them what the problem was, got the same explanation, he then asked them to show him on the car which they did including pointing to the nice new shiny brake disks saying 'see how they have gone all shiny due to the brake pads being worn out and rubbing the rust off the disks'.
It was somewhere around this point that he then wiped the floor with KwikFit.
The description 'Cowboys' does not do them justice.

OP agreed on the basis it was work needed to stop the knocking. It wasn;t and didn;t, so it was unnecessary work. I'd be taking a day off work and spending it down there kicking up a BIG fuss.

the dame company flitted a pyrelli(Sp) tyre on my car 2 years ago the other 3 are Goodyear. Had to hve it replaced on Friday as it was nearly bald. 3 of them scratching their heads couldn't understand why this tyre had been fitted they automatically thought it was done at another center. NO the guy who looked the most puzzled was the guy that fit it in the same center. I don't have much choice of where to have my repairs and maintenance done as my car is motabillity but i can certainly say if it wasn't i wouldn't be going there again.

Thanks for all your replies. I have been back in touch with "Sh*t-Fit" head office but they are sticking to there guns. I called the trading standards and explained my story. They are saying that I cannot prove the front springs etc didn’t need replacing even though it didn’t stop the banging noise. They think at best I can demand a new set of tyres (less the mileage) from "Sh*t-Fit" minus the milage from when thery supposed to have originally tracked my car. I’m so peed of with this company I feel It is not worth bothering with. How can theses guy get away with robbery like this..

I would love to have an car with expertly diagnosed faults, then put it into a few of theses companies to show bad and wide spread this money making misdiagnosis really is throughout the industry . Anyone with any ides pm me.
