Parking Sensors

Options
Hi,

I hope someone can point me in the right direction. In October last year I purchased a set of parking sensors and a reversing camera and monitor for my Jeep Patriot. I had them fitted professionally and they were cracking to begin with over christmas the camera broke well it did and didn't the frost got inside it and it stopped working.

I emailed the company I bought them from there was no reply so after a week I phoned him and he sent me a replacement camera I then had to get it fitted which cost me an extra £50 because you have to drop the bumper it's a nightmare. So I had the new one fitted in March this year.

About a fortnight ago the camera got water in it and became cloudy and I was unable to see anything behind me with it I left it thinking that it would clear up only when I came to close my boot last week the lens cover off the camera fell out on to the floor I still have it. So I phoned the company again and said that I need another camera as this one has broke.

He was very rude said that he would send one out but this would be the last one he has never had any problems with the cameras before what am I doing to them? What type of terrain do I drive in??? I am not doing anything to them and I drive on normal roads funnily enough I do not go off roading as it might not be capable plus I'm not really interested in going off roading even though it is a jeep.

I have a guy coming this morning to fit the new camera. This is going to cost me atleast £40 but he is one of the recommended fitters for the company I've bought the sensors from. I said to the guy from the company that I bought it from that if this camera messes up again I would be wanting a refund which he refused.

Would I be entitled to a refund as his product is inferior?

I could understand if I was going offroading in the car but I'm not it hardly goes anywhere because I work from home.

If I am entitled to a refund I would obviously have to take the product out of the car and then my bumper will be left with big holes in it. Would I be able to claim for that?

The car is only 2 years old next month so it isn't some old jallopy.

Many thanks

Steph xx

The problem is proving his camera is defective. Have you googled the company or camera brand to see if others are having the same issue?
Maybe this would be better in the motoring section?

perhaps look at a SOGA claim. Six months doesn't seem right as a working life for the camera.

You would have to get a report saying that the camera is failing because of a fault with the camera and not misuse/wear and tear. If you were successful you would be entitled to get this refunded to you.

Anyone remember the days when people could just park their cars using their own judgement alone?

Since more than 6 months from the original purchase the onus is now on you to prove it's an 'inherent' fault; that means if you go to court likely an independent report you'd have to pay for. If you won you could reclaim the cost. (This is detailed in SoGA, the Sale of Goods Act).

Since it's a self-fit camera (or employ your own fitter) I doubt you'd be able to claim the cost of removing and refitting each of the replacement cameras or if you actually manage to obtain a refund then to put right the holes in your bumper. If you'd bought the whole thing as a service (supply and fit camera) then you could have. At least that would be my interpretation.

Do you know why they use it, it could be they are carp drivers who can't reverse for toffee... or they may need it as a driving aid because they have medical issues...

Or it could just be that with the ever increasing number of cars on the road, its becoming harder to find a space to fit your car in?

That being said, i am one of the most sexist drivers ever. I am female yet i openly admit that most women cant drive, let alone park. Women tend to drive like they're afraid the car will bite them. Where men tend to drive like utter loonies and think they're driving in a dodgem :rotfl:

Of course back in the old days there was no PAS to help, you could be driving a mini and feel like it weighed the same as a double decker :D
Neither did you have anti-locking breaks, air con, cd players etc etc.

In fact, lets all go back to the old old cars that you had to crank in order to get them started :rotfl:
