Tiscali Help

Hi
I have some very basic (to you not me) questions about my tiscali package I hope someone could answer for me. I currently pay Tiscali £15.99 for 256k connection on ADSL?.
Question 1
Is 2mb quicker than 256k? I'm asking this as the monthly charge is £14.99 for 2Mb and it sounds faster than 256k (Im not very technical)
Question 2
I have just received an email from Sky saying I can join them for a fiver per month on 8mb (must be faster!) so I phoned Tiscali as per instructions from Sky to get my MAC code. They took 30 minutes to answer, 15 minutes asking why I want to leave and finally told me my phone line doesnt have a MAC code. Do you know if this is correct?
Any help gratefully received.

Answer Question 1 Yes 8 times as fast!!! I went From a dial up package to 1MB For £13. You will notice the difference especially with file downloads FUP permitting.(Fair Use Policy) as you will download more.
You should get off the package you are on as they will not move you unless you ask and will charge the top dollar rate you are on to the cows come home.
Answer Question 2 I thought all ADSL lines had a Mac. I might be wrong. The Tiscali support people can be a bit dumb!
Also 8mb is the max you can on a normal phone line. Depends on how far you are away from the exchange ,you may get less if you are a fair distance from the exchange.

Hi
I'm sorry to say but apparently Tiscali have stopped issuing MAC's, they really are the pits, so if you want to leave you will have to cancel your account, this means that your broadband line will be disconnected, and then when you sign up to another isp, you will have to wait for BT to re-connect your line. Not issuing MAC's is just to try and stop people from leaving, they really shouldn't be able to get away with this, but they seem to be a law unto themselves.
Have a look at the Tiscali forum, it really is depressing.

I wouldn't recommend Tiscali/Toucan to my worst enemy.0 -
