He might have, but I doubt it. Nowadays, everyone has a mobile they use instead of a landline, well on planet Mr.Pimento they do.

Same here... we don't even have a landline. The one here is a real antiquity, a dog's breakfast of GPO boxes and joints, and sockets from pre 1981, which is probably one of the reasons it's useless for broadband, so we don't bother with it.

You could have a look at www.sipgate.co.uk - calls to mobiles are 14.4ppm - this would/should work rather well with your new O2 broadband and might save you cash. Also has some very good forwarding capabilities to mobiles.

My husband is the original luddite. Honestly. It's going to take him a while to work out how to log into his new email account.

    It won't be pretty...

The thing with BT is is they seem to try and push your bill up by a little bit each quarter unless you challenge them. They tried nearly £200 this quarter and by much polite converstation and genuine questioning with someone in their call centre I got it down by nearly £30.00. However £170 is still a silly amount to pay, so I'm looking around for a much better deal and i still feel totally ripped off.

Their bills are very convoluted ways of hiding what they are trying to charge you .

I haven't even got BT vision , or Sky, in fact the TV doesn't even get BBC 1 anymore , so there's got to be something cheaper out there by a long way.

I don't own one those mobile 'phones yet. I'm thinking about getting one in case the car breaks down.

I bet there is a combined package somewhere for about half the price of BT.

Yes, the satellite telly holds no interest for me either. We turned off Rupert Murdoch about three years ago and now use the old Sky box as a Freesat receiver.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I can't get any of the BBC channels anymore. I wish this were grounds for not paying the TV licence fee , but it isn't. Great paying for a service I can't even receive! If I can get them to take the telly in lieu of payment then that would be fair. Never watch the thing anyway, nowt on except do your property up and flog it or junk in upstairs rooms.
