BT - Berluddy cheek!

We're leaving BT on August 11 and going to o2 for home phone and broadband.

We've had a letter saying they're sorry we're leaving.

I pay by direct debit, but not every month, just once every three months when the bill comes. I last paid on July 1st (£163 odd, full amount). I cancelled the DD with my bank as I expect I will receive a final bill and will pay that by cheque.

Anyway, BT call me just now "Hi, this is BT, we're recording this call. Why have you cancelled your direct debit?"

Er... Even if I wasn't leaving you, my bill isn't due for another two months!

Gah!

!!!! off and leave me alone!

£163 is an astonishingly high quarterly phone bill.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • You've been caught by the direct debit police! How dare you revoke our access to your bank account!

Actually, I think there's something in BT's Ts and Cs which says that if you cancel your DD mandate they can cancel the service. But then, that's what you want :)

Years ago, I recall BT ringing me up repeatedly asking why I hadn't paid the bill that arrived yesterday and was sitting in my in tray unopened so far. After about the third time, it was bye BT.

    Isn't it!

It's made up of three months Option 3 broadband (£19.99 a month), three months line rental (what's that these days? about £12.00 a month?) Three months anytime phone calls (not sure what I'm being charged for this :o ) and Mr.Pimento makes lots of calls to mobile phones.

It has been in the £230's before. The bills are deliberately made so complicated that I can't decipher them.

    I won't miss them...

Your line rental (£11.54), Anytime calls, and broadband should total about £109 per quarter. So maybe Mr pimento should call mobiles using his own mobile's inclusive allowance, saving at least £216pa?

The broadband is also included in the bill. £20 a month.

He doesn't own a contract mobile phone, just a PAYG.

Just tried to log in and see my last bill. Technical glitch means I can't...

Anyway, their tariff information tells me the Unlimited Anytime Plan is £53.34 a quarter.
My Option 3 broadband is £19.99 a month, so just under £60 a quarter. makes about £113 total.

Add VAT and it's up to £132, meaning that all other calls (mobiles and Internations (he makes some of those too) are about £30 or £10 a month.

The cheapest contract mobile wouldn't let me do all that for £10 a month I don't think.

Anyway, it's academic because we're moving to o2 with 600 mins to International calls and 600 mins to 0844 number included, unlimited LLU broadband and line rental for £22.50 a month.

Are you sure that's 0844 and not 0845?

He might have, but I doubt it. Nowadays, everyone has a mobile they use instead of a landline, well on planet Mr.Pimento they do.

No, I'm not sure, but we make hardly any calls to either of those kind of numbers anyway. What's the difference?
