Do decent plumbers still work in the U.K?

As a landlord, I used to cringe at the thought of having to call out a local plumber.
They hardly ever turned up at the appointed time and kept me hanging around for hours. When they did finally arrive, the workmanship wa shoddy and you could almost bet that a second call out would be needed within a few days. The charges they made were completely exorbitant, based on the shortage of plumbers and amounted virtually to a blackmail situation.
Now we have a good supply of Polish plumbers in the neighbourhood. They do an honest job and I have NEVER had to call them back in. They make a reasonable charge AND they speak better English than the locals!
We all know why the locals are whingeing. In my view it's not before time that they've had their comeuppance. I'll not go back to using English plumbers unless I have to.
About time this happened with dentists and garages.
Oh yes... and as for financial advisers...0 -
There are 2 sides to every story. Got a call today for a rewire quote (golf club so warrant required from local authority before carring out electrical work in an area where public have access [Scottish Building Regs]) , called back and told the guy I would be in his area in around 30 mins, arrived 25 mins later and was told 'he's just nipped out to the cash and carry, he will be back in an hour'
Told them to score me off the prospective quote list.
I don't generally have to beg for work, it usually finds me.baldly going on...0
