Once you have a new credit account showing on your credit file, your score will drop a little as it is a new commitment and you've yet to demonstrate how you will handle it.
A new credit card won't affect things like a mobile phone contract or cable TV, utilities, that sort of thing being approved, but you probably won't get offered preferential APRs or decent limits on any cards you apply for within say 6~12 months of having taken out one with, for example, Natwest.
In the greater scheme of things, it's a relatively short term, low scale hit to your credit score.
Main thing to remember is once you have a new credit card, like you say close the old one - as too big a total credit limits will also make creditors weary of lending to you no matter how old your accounts were.
If you were to open the Natwest credit card and xFer the balance, I'd leave one other card open just so that you have a long standing account with plenty of repayment history for future creditors to judge you on.

It's possible that so long as the payment is received before the next statement is produced (as little as 3-4 days though), then the breach may not be reported.0 -

Timely thread ! Recently I had the opportunity to take a couple of negotiated BT offers with Capital One and Virgin cards which have sat at a Zero balance for quite a while now.
Both companies 'first' statements are currently live with payment dates in about 10 days time.
Both statements state that the minimum will be collecetd by DD on X date.
Now to the important part. The cards haven't been used for 15 and 17 months respectively so as we know the DD's have both time expired.
On speaking to both companies about this they both advised the same in that the banks do not notify of time expired DD's and as they have no jurisdiction to cancel a DD without the cardholders permission it will stay on the card comapnies system indefinately.
Only when the first DD after expiry is attempted to be collected will they know the DD no longer exists when it's rejected by the bank, but by then it's too late for the customer and a penalty fee will have been automatically added.
I'm not so sure the ADDACS info above relates to time expired DD's as it doesn't explicitly mention it.
Anything of this nature ever come up on Stooze YB ?0 -
Paid them with a direct debit card yesterday and they still have not put that into the account... I now have an overdue payment on the account for this month and an increased minimum payment for next months' account to include interest being charged.
How long does it take for a direct debit card payment to go through?0 -

Correction - Debit card payment. Direct debit, and debit card are two totally utterly different things
Takes three working days normally.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

I would suggest that all correspondence goes in writing, sent recorded delivery and a copy kept for your own records. Then they can't move the goal posts!! :-) The address is-

Indeed they are. I have now decided to pay the amount I borrowed in full back to them and have no further dealings with them.
At the moment they have reverted my account to the full 19.5% APR despite telling me on the phone that they would go to a 4% APR once the payment goes through... I guess I will give them their 2 more working days to see if they keep their end of the bargain.0 -
They wont be able to change your interest rate until the payment has cleared to the account, even though they know it's paid (system wont allow them to).
Now I dont want to confuse you, but I know MBNA systems like the back if my hand (i unfortunatly work for them) and any Retail promotions after a late payment that get switched off, if the rep agrees to put a promotion back on it will go back to the original rate- so in your case would be 0%.
The 4.9% that you have been quoted would have been for balance transfers and money transfers only- I can see how the rep got confused as you can be like a machine sometimes in the call centre the amount of promotionl turn offs they deal with and 99.9% of the time its BT/MT promos that the customers have breached.
Anyway so when the rep sends off to the marketing dept about adding a 4.9% that will only move any BT/MT balances and the Retail would go back to 0%....i know this doesnt help you now as you have paid the balance in full but it may help someone else in the future.0
