Advise and help needed for my dead DVD recorder drive ?

Hi all,
I need some advise and help.
My Dell PC has a DVD recorder card/drive; namely a Phillips DVD-RW DVD8631.
I have had the PC and DVD recorder drive for over 5 years. I have got (touch wood !) really good service and value from DVD recorder. I have used it to record and download (legit) loads of films and music; so I can't complain.
However, it now appears that the DVD recorder is 'dead'. Every time that I press the eject button, nothing happens and the led light at the front no longer flashes.
Could someone please advise me that it is dead and that I need to get a new DVD recorder to replace it. I am tempted to reload the DVD drivers from the internet but I don't think that this will make a difference ?
I do not trust PCWorld as I feel that they will attempt to get me to spend money for them to fix my DVD recorder and then advise that I will need to buy a replacement (from their store).
Could someone please advise what to do and, if needed, where to get a new DVD player at a good price ? Is Dell a good place to get a replacement ?
I use my PC for business, perform regular backups and also need a DVD recorder drive in the event of a hard disk crash that prevents me recovering my PC. For info, I have a Ghost Symantec Recovery Disk (with Hard Drive software) so I hope people understand the need for a working DVD recorder drive.
Any advise and help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

They're under £20 new. Don't even bother wasting time trying to fix it.0

Ebuyer, Dabs, SVP, Bigpockets just to name four online suppliers. Or PC World buy one off the shelf. Either way and fit it yourself and don't pay for fitting charges.
As above they are under £20 unless you go somewhere like Dell.
However if the LED is not flashing when you press eject make sure the power lead is still connected to the drive inside the PC.0
