I honestly think the store will give the refund.

Good Grief!
I'm really sorry I posted here.
Some of the replies are downright nasty.
Sad, just sad frankly.
Thank you to those who gave sensible advice. I've reported the abusive ones.0 -
Really? Because that's happened to me quite frequently over the past little while. I ordered 2 radiators 3 weeks ago and the company who was supplying them told me they didn't actually have the ones I asked for in stock but would I mind taking some in a different colour. People are perfectly entitled to change their minds.
Bizarre.
The difference being that in the scenario you provided, the product you ordered was not available and they were offering a substitute.
In this case the product IS available and you simply do not want it anymore. However as previous posters said, if you are nice and explain, the manager may well accept your refund request. But just remember, if they do......its not your legal entitlement but rather them giving it out of goodwill. You keep using that word. Similar situation happened to me when I bought flooring from floors-to-go. We had ordered £1000 worth of real wood flooring on a saturday afternoon and paid that day. They had most of the packs in store but they had to special order another 10 packs.
Anyway we had changed our mind over the weekend and tried to cancel the order on a Monday morning. The store refused, even though we never took stock of the flooring. They would buy back at 50% of the cost.
You can imagine the anser.
The were just being ar$y about it. Spoke to the area manager and he would not budge at all. But again we changed our minds.
We took stock of the flooring and put it on ebay, adtrader, any where we could sell it. It took us a year to get rid of it all.
So it was an expensive lesson, and now I always check the companies return policy before I buy anything especially smaller stores. Some will give a refund out of goodwill, some only store credit. Always worth checking.0 -
Hi Folks,
Well thanks to the advice here I went into the shop and was very apologetic and pointed out I was a good customer etc and that it wasn't that I had changed my mind, but more that the light would not fit the area required.
So they gave me my money back! WAHOO!:j
Huge sigh of relief. I have definitely learnt my lesson about checking return policies before buying.
Abusive replies above were removed (in case someone thinks I was over reacting).
Cheers,
