Desire - anyone with an unlocked phone unable to get Froyo/2.2?

EDIT: Check my link to XDA forums (see later post) that solves this issue. Manual update takes 10 mins and no technical knowledge. That said, do be careful!

I've got an unbranded/unlocked Desire.

Firmware 2.1-update1
Software number 1.21.405.2

It's on T-mobile (who don't officially start updating until Sept) but my understanding it that the update comes from HTC if you've an unbranded/unlocked phone.

But checking manually via Software update results in nothing for me.

Now, it could be that I just have to wait a few more days but is anyone else in the same situation? Or am in the same boat as the rest of the T-mobilers?

Yours is a generic HTC ROM so you should receive the update soon. It is being staged, so it could arrive anytime now.

Thanks for replying. Just wondering if anyone else has not received it yet. Have been (sadly) hitting that 'Check for updates' button for four days.

I'm unlocked on T Mobile and mine updated last Sunday. So if they're staging it they're not doing it by Network.

i think it is staged over two weeks. it was the same for the hero updates as well. and the prev desire update, one of my phones (both desires) got the update quite a few days after the first one got the update and i called htc about the updates then and i was told staggered updates and to wait. but this time both my handsets got the froyo update the same day. so it is luck if you get it early or not. stock rom will mostly have lesser bugs than cooked roms in the beginning at least as it would have undergone testing before release, while cooked roms get tested by you.

Thanks bubbles. Don't think there was any issue with updating manually vs waiting for a pushed OTA update. At least there doesn't seem to be yet...

last time i updated one manually and the other alert auto alert about OTA update. this time both were done manually by me. auto alert will depend on what setting for the alerts has been used on your device for checking for software updates, guess it will be once every few weeks, so might be faster checking manually every day.
