I have nearly a full tub of fromage frais left over from making a cheese cake at the weekend and it will go out of date soon and I don't really want to waste it. Any ideas what I can use it for?

More cheescake!:j
It's very nice with sweetened fruit puree stired through, or you could have it greek style with warm honey.
I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...
I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!0 -
I love it mashed with potatoes/sweet potatoes/butternut squash/carrots/parsnips etc etc (any or all of those :cool: ) instead of with milk or cream.
Or add to anything that you would normally put milk in, i.e. scrambled eggs, custard etc etc.

It's a great accompaniement to a pudding instead of cream.0

If you're making a veggie pasta bake or lasagne or something similar, spread the fromage frais on it and add a bit of cheese on top - it cooks down to a thick creamy topping.
Enjoy!0 -
Student standby when I lived in Paris and fromage frais was therefore the cheapest thing on offer:
Roll up slices of ham and put in the bottom of a baking dish (yes, plastic ham is fine but not wafer thin!);
Put a small tub or half a large tub of fromage frais in a bowl, add a clove of crushed garlic and a small tin of tomato puree (= couple of tablespoons I would think - don't fuss, you can use tomato ketchup just as well, this is student food we're talking about);
Mix this all together (it will go a disgusting prawn cocktail pink colour) and spoon over ham. Top with grated emmenthal (cheddar) and bake in the oven until the cheese is golden and bubbling. YUM YUM!!!!
Or, if you can't be bothered with the ham, you can use cooked pasta and mix it all up with the sauce; top with grated cheese and you have a very nice pasta bake.
Overwhelmed with nostalgia now, must go and buy fromage frais (Jockey being the brand of choice but I don't think you can get that here)...0 -
I accidentally picked up a large pot of this instead of the Asda GFY cottage cheese, and now dont know what to do with it, any ideas? Its pretty boring on its own.0

Use it instead of sour cream on baked potatoes, fajita's or with chilli.
Pour over some chopped fruit and eat like this, or top with sugar and brown under the grill like creme brule
Use in place of cream in most savoury recipies
Flavour it any way you like and eat as a desert like yogurt - eg with melted chocolate, fruit syrup or honey0 -
It's lovely with fruit! Try it with tinned peaches. (Or, of course, poached fresh peaches!)0

Seems to be "Weetabix" week on the telly, where they are doing different ways of serving every day............bung some chopped fruit and fromage frais on your breakfast cereal.
Fromage frais is brilliant, use it whenever you would use milk, cream or yoghourt, whether sweet or savoury.
Omelette or scrambled eggs - use instead of milk/water/cream.
Mayonaisse salad dressings - either use instead of mayonaisse, or a mix of both for coleslaw, potato salad and any other creamy salads.
Quiche fillings - instead of using milk, use fromage frais beaten with eggs.
Packet of tacos placed in small ovenproof dish, few dollops of home made chilli or chilli tomato sauce, grated cheese...........bake about 5 mins or so, serve with dollops of fromage frais, olives. Lovely wee supper dish to share.
Whizz up with some fruit for a smoothie.
Use as a marinade - use instead of yoghourt or cream for marinades for meat. Mix with some curry spices, put in some raw meat, leave overnight in fridge covered for a tikka type dish.
And if you pick up my other great favourite, "Greek Yoghourt" by mistake, just use that the same way!
Hope this is of some help.0 -
Hi did tack this question onto end of a BM thread but had no bites.
I want to make the Naan in my Panny. Can I substitute Fromage frais for the Natural Yogurt do you think?
Also any suggestions of what to do with fromage frais (I find it a little spleeurgy)?
Only having a go with it as doing Slimming World (ps won't be eating the Naans!).:)Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01
