Thanks Oldernotwiser. Have just found out that the loans can only be applied to the last two (or three) years of longer courses anyhow for the reason you outlined about to do with repayments whilst still studying.
Also there is no point applying for the future now but to leave it until the summer as starting the final 2 or 3 years in the autumn.
Thanks again0 -
My wife took out a CDL in 2004 for £8000 to begin a course at the South West College for Oriental Medicine to study for 4 years in acupuncture. The course ceased after one year and has since been liquidated with no assets.
The medical practice which is run by the same person from the same premises still continues.
From the time the course ceased we were liable for the debt as stated in the terms and conditions yet we have not completed the course or gained the qualifications to earn a living and start repayments.
We desperately need help and have tried everyone including CAB but have found nobody of use.
The bank were getting heavy but for now seem to ignore us but still and interest to the total sum owed.
In hindsight the college fees should have been put on a credit card and then repaid by a CDL in which case we would have had some cover on the card to offset the loan as we would have not been supplied with the goods that were paid for.
Why aren't these colleges verified by government and underwritten. What's to stop any fly-by-night organisation from starting up and doing exactly this and IF they are already policed do we have a case???
If anyone has any suggestions for us please let me know...soon!0 -

Courses are validated by various bodies and it's up to the individual to check that this is the case before committing to it.
Who was the validating body for your wife's course?0 -
Thanks for the reply who could I check this out with?0

[My son started his application for a £10,000 CDL in August, and has finally been accepted subject to the normal signatures from uni etc. (He's doing a Masters). He sent all the paperwork back almost 2 weeks ago by Special Delivery, so was able to track it. Barclays now say they can't find it and have gone back to the p.o. for verification of when it was delivered, but I think all that will tell them is the date and signature! His problem now is that although the uni has given him another month, his landlord is getting a bit iffy, plus he needs to buy books etc. does anyone know if there is someone he can ring to try to resolve this? Any advice would be really appreciated.0

A CDL is between the applicant and the bank so he needs to take it up with someone as high as possible within Barclays.0 -
Thanks, I'll pass that on to him. Barclays havr already "lost" a letter containing photocopies of his bank statements, passport and driving licence. Fingers crossed it will soon get sorted.0

Hi. I need some advice. I applied for my CDL in July and...after so many delays with them losing my photocopies, changes of start dates etc.. the bank finally accepted the loan and that i would get the money in 20 - 25 days. Fine. Four weeks later...no money. I rang up and they said it'll be another two weeks. Two weeks later...no money. Furiously i rang them up and they said that it'll DEFINITELY be in my account next week. I remarked 'so you're saying i won't be ringing you up next week asking for the manager then?' 'No, no it'll be there'. One week has passed.... STILL no money. How should i handle the situation?0

Hi Martin, I have gone back to uni and am currently borrowing £4000 off my mum to pay for my Graduate Dimploma in Law. Next year I am applying to do my Legal Practice Course and it can cost up to £11000 which is obviously expensive. I am aware that Natwest, HSBC and Lloyds that offer Graduate loans. as I have been ill from 2005-2009 I have just managed to clear most of my debts and just have my overdraft to clear. I have not had charges since Sept 09 as I was on long term sick and didnt have internet banking and my pay went gradually down so my credit rating isn't brilliant.
I am worried about the types of loans I can get to pay for the course, what would you suggest. how can i increase my credit rating and what would be the best type of laon for me to apply for?0
