Well, they CLAIM it's much better - the design means it's near to the surface, so in theory should be able to gain a greater signal because of less internal obstructions, but if you're a leftie like myself, you can easily drop signal because of the 'death grip'.
Just to put it into context - I've never had a problem with my hand positioning on any smartphones I've had before, yet I was able to walk into Orange in Bath and emulate the 'death grip' within a minute - and this was just the normal way I hold a phone.

My 4 is as good as the 3gs if not better!
Yes everyone puts their finger over there when using the phone!
In terms of daily usage never had a problem!

I'm sure it is better - the radio waves have less obstacles inside the phone to penetrate, as the metallic ring on the outside of the phone acts as an antenna.
Many people claim not to have a problem on a daily basis with the iPhone 4. I am just stating my experience. I have tried 2 different iPhone 4s - one in an Orange store, and one was my friend's. Both times, through normal holding and use, I experienced a complete loss of signal.
The problem is more frustrating for us left handers. There is a difference in the points at which we touch the phone while holding it - try it out now for yourself. My thumb sits directly at the point of the fault - and that is the normal way I hold my phone - honest! I think it may be something to do with the thumb having a noticeable pulse and fingers not, therefore the whole body acts as a conductor for left-handed users, whereas right-handed users experience the problem noticeably less. The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

Just to balance the argument out
I'm an iPhone 4 user
I'm left handed
And i have had no signal drops at all.0 -
I use it for work in deepest darkest county Durham, where no phone on any network can get a signal, that is except the iPhone 4, which get a poor signal to be fair, and calls are occasionally dropped.
But hey, it actually manages to get a signal, so frankly I sometimes think the "death-grip" is a bit over-exaggerated.0 -
Thank you all!0
