Carcraft - Thought it was too good to be true!

Hi, Please can anyone help!

We bought a car from Carcraft last night and when we viewed the car there was a fake tax disk advertising the price of a 12mnths tax disk. This was one of the main reasons for us buying the car as it was Diesel and did 40 more MPG than our previous car. The tax disk quoted £30 for 12 mnths and as we currently pay £260 for the year we thought we were getting a brilliant saving.

So anyway I came to tax it and the post office now tell me its £90 for the year or £49.50 for 6mnths. I went with the 6mnths.

I am now wondering if I have grounds to make a complaint but am talking my self out of making one because of the saving we will already make.

I suppose I have only lost £60 per year compared to the £260 we normally pay, I'm still saving £200 on tax alone.

What does anyone else think?

Kind regards

KrazyKate xx

Personally I'd be happy paying £90 for a year. Did the salesperson specifically say it was £30 a year tax?

Well I think you should contact them and tell them you were mislead about the tax fee on the car and ask them to contribute the difference.

Well when we walked in they sat us down and showed us a presenter file with all the cards you would see in every car and explained what this showed you, i.e one for the price, one for the car details mpg, insurance group etc. and the one for the car tax.

I dont think he said to me specifically that it was that price, however we were going on about it quite a bit as that swung it for us and they never corrected us.

So not sure what I should do! People at work are saying to complain but I don't want to rock the boat as they have been really good in every other way. I'm just annoyed!

Anyone who wants to make a saving when buying a car doesn't go near Carcraft.

You have experienced just one of the many tactics they employ on the unwary.

Thanks Newbie007, I was thinking about doing that, and we have took the car over 5 years so was thinking of asking for £300 back to compensate?

Although I feel bad, I suppose they should have corrected me (there was lots of opportunities!)

How do you get a "brilliant saving" by buying a new car at probably £3000 over the book price?

I bought a car from Carcraft once, I knew I was paying slightly over the odds, but the car was a rare find!

You were mislead, but if you 'dont want to rock the boat' trying to get the £60 from them then leave it be.

It's not just £60 a year difference, when it comes to sell your car the £30 fee is very attractive for buyers, lose out on that too.

I wouldn't say a company is very good if they have mislead me intentionally or unintentionally.

Pretty much says it all really. I've heard horror story's about them from other people, and always stayed away. I'd rather drive an 11 year old Escort than get a car from them!
