OP..are you saying that he has officially been diagnosed with Gynecomastia or is it simply excess fat?

Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Caroline's son may not be overweight, some men develop breast tissue and could be as thin as a rake x

She stated he had stretchmarks. Stretch marks occur when the skin has been stretched, usually because someone has gained too much weight or through pregnancy (the latter is obviously not the case), they would not occur naturally in someone who is and has always been, as 'thin as a rake'.

You are wrong actually, my DH - among lots of naturally thin men I know - has stretchmarks on his back and chest, and has always been slim. They can occur as part of a growth spurt in teenage boys where the body get larger in other ways apart from getting fat, ie shooting up taller, getting broader on the chest, and on other parts of the body too. Some have them on their calfs, biceps etc where they got into a sport or fitness in teenage years and the muscles developed quickly and stretched the skin the fit over the newly enlarged muscles.

So they do occur naturally in someone who has always been thin.

Absolutely right - but she has already said that he has stretch marks and this is generally a sign of losing weight quickly so if he is still carrying excess weight then getting to the right weight for his height will help.

If it is hormonal, which development of breast tissue is related to, then this may improve once he has reached full maturity.

This is the part of the post that I have used to show he may have been losing weight,

"consultant at warwick and he agreed an operation needed doing as he had waited for his fatty tissue on his breast to go down on its own but it didnt."

this was the statement that I think shows that the OP's son may not have always been as "thin as a rake", I know several paople that whilst at school may have had a "moob" problem, apart from some minor ribbing by one or two people that wheren't that sharpest knife in the drawer anyway it didn't bother them that much, though one of them used to wear a t-shirt when swimming in the see as he was a bit self conscious about it.
His solution was to start working out when he got into his teens, he also carried a few extra pounds but was as fit and strong as I was at that age, despite my build being a bit more what some may consider "the norm", but my mate was not made to dwell on it by his mum taking him to hospital all the time making it a big issue, if a child sees his parents making a big issue about something then you will find that the child will focus on the issue in the same way.
  • hi there
My son is not over weight and never has been exactly what the doctor said has he gained any weight we said just the normal he has the normal weight for his age and isnt over weight at all he holds his hands in front of him when he walks most of the time due to his self esteem being low its because he was told these operations after waiting a year and a half for it to go down itself the doctor agreed the stretch marks are a mystery defenately over weight and he didnt understand why this had been denied other than the funds were not available
thanks for all the advice i am taking all of it and will use all of it to help him try and live with this
    Thank you so very much
  • It is rare for the NHS to operate cosmetically on anyone under 18. I once wanted something doing when I was 15, but my doctor said ''No!''. I was upset and angry about it. But he did it with the best intentions. I am 23 now, and totally fine. I didn't need the procedure, and I've since thanked my doctor for saying no.

Please could you use some punctuation. It doesn't need to be perfect but the odd comma and full stop at least would make it a lot easier to understand you. I don't mean to be rude or upset you, I genuinely want to understand what you're writing but the string of words in the post I quoted is hard work.

I think the most important point has to be that your son is only 16 and therefore still growing and changing. No respectable doctor would agree to do surgery for cosmetic reasons at this age. You should support this view, I think, and keep encouraging your son to be healthy and active. Maybe he'll want the surgery in a few years, maybe not but for now it is unlikely to be an appropriate option.

hi there i am just updating on where i am at the moment
The breathing is panic related i think but the stretch marks have got major worse very purple and very profound.
I had another appointment to discuss this matter ,and raise the issues ,on trying again on appeal to pct,but the doc/consultant now is getting him tested for cushions disease, so my lad isnt suffering a weight gain or weight loss at all.
He is normal weight normal hasnt lost or gained too much weight.
At least i am closer to my answers we have waited, for a long time for something like this, to be diagnosed.
Its scarey but a way forward.
    Thanks Carol
