after spending a week in majorca i returned home to a huge mobile bill of 513 pounds, this was apparently due to internet usage, apparently even though i didnt open any of my emails i still recieved them an was still liable to pay for it. The fact is my mobile provider never told me that internet usage abroad was so expensive and i stupidly assumed because i had unlimited wifi and internet at home that it would be the same abroad. is there anything i can do as iv tried speaking to the customer service team but they said there was nothing they could do, i have heard of some customers having there bill reduced or even there roaming charges wiped as a good will gesture. any ideas??

Your provider shouldnt tell you the internet usage abroad was so expensive as thats for you to find out
and i stupidly assumed because i had unlimited wifi and internet at home that it would be the same abroad
its a different network so your unimited usage would get eaten up, wifi doesnt affect your allowance

just a few things
did you not hear the news about using phone abroad
there was soemthing about the provider having a limit of £40 but not sure if that would apply to you and it might depends when you went away0 -
The £40 limit if for Europe only. Some networks in the US can charge up to £10 a mag, hence the size of the bill.
You 'might' get them to reduce it a little as a good will gesture, but as above its up to you check what its going to cost before you travel rather than after. . .0 -
They were in Majorca therefore unless you apply for a higher cap you are limited €50 although this may be in a billing month. Therefore the worst you could expect was 2*€50.
This came in to force on the 1st of July.
If you have not opted out, contact you provider and advise them that you believe they are in breach of EU rules.
