Itchy bites

Sorry - this is grim and in fact I am embarressed to admit it!!

Over the past 10 days something has been biting me so I have itchy bites all over my body. The problem is that I ca't for the life of me work out what is causing them.

I do have a cat, but he hardly goes outside and I have never seen fleas on him. I have checked over the weekend as still couldn't see any.

The bites are random and not in a line so are unlikey to be bed bugs. I do travela lot for work and stay in hotels over night so it is a possiblity. But unlikely.

No sign of mozzies.

I have no even kissed a man in 6 months let amone anything else so it is unlikely to be crabs. Though as I said before I do stay in hotels so it is a slight possiblity.

It really started over night more or less, and I can't think of anything that I have done over the last 2 weeks that is out of the ordinary.

Any suggestions about what they could be or how I get rid of the little blighters?:o

No not on my hands or face. Mainly on my tummy and hips, with a few on my thighs. They are pink/ bright pink (I am pale) and raised in a oval shape ranging from about 1cm to about 4cm.

    Thanks

This will probaby be closed as a medical advice thread :)

TBH it could be any of the things you've mentioned, especially if you've been staying in hotels - there's no substitute for seeing a doctor, or at minimum a pharmacist. So go and do it!

I have already seen a pharmasist and called NHS direct. Who both said "hmm - likely to be bites..."

I am not looking for medical advice at all. Rather - what other little critters should I consider looking for and how to kill the blighters that are invading my home.

If they're not on your hands and face it could be scabies, you can have them for 6 months before the spots appear, I came out with them on holiday last year and thought they were bites by the time I got home I had scratched them and they were also infected - lovely as you can imagine, I'd get to the docs asap, they are generally caught skin to skin but I still don't know how I caught them and how I didn't pass them onto DH and DS's

ps - I saw a pharmacist on holiday, they didn't recognise it as scabies and gave me hydrocortesone cream

ewww!!! I will get an appt with the doctor asap... the pharmasist thought they were probably flea bites but they are too big for that.

    Hi Ladyhawk,

Sorry to hear about your bites.

Not sure if this is any help? But last year I went to Scotland and after the first night in this hotel, I woke in the morning to find marks on my shoulder blade. The next morning more marks which were then known to be bites.

Each morning there were more bites on my face, hands, stomach, back and top of my legs. They were very raised and red, extremely itchy and I also had a closed and swollen eye with a sack like bag under it full of fluid.

Upshot is that I visited the Doctor and I had been bitten by bed bugs and I had suffered a very bad allergic reaction.

I threw most of my belongings away as you have to be so careful not to transport them home with you.

You mention that you frequently stay in hotels, if these bites are appearing more each day then it is a possibility that you are being bitten at night. Apparently bed bugs do not bite below the knee on the lower leg.

If there are more bites when you wake in the morning then this is a possiblility?

There are signs of bed bugs, I googled them on my return home, perhaps not the best thing to do but I did want to know what I was dealing with.

Perhaps google them and read up on how you can identify if you have them.

I hope whatever these bites are that you can get them identified and treated soon.

A trip to the Doctor is a must.

    Hugs and take care

    Hi -

I do have a couple of bites on my calves. I have had a look at the pictures of scabies online and my bites definirely don't look like that.

I haven't stayed in a hotel for more than 2 weeks now which is another reason hat I don't think it is bed bugs. I have googled them before and kind of know what to look out for.

I suppose that I think my doctor will be the same as the pharmicist and just say " oh yes, you have been bitten by something haven't you..."
