can anyone please advise me, my i phone contract is coming an end, i intend to take out a sim only contract.
a standard sim only and an i phone sim only, differ by £10 a month but i would get the same data, calls and texts.
i asked in an 02 shop what is the difference between the two and was told not a lot!
can anyone enlighten me, will a standard sim card work an i phone? thanks

I'm pretty sure the only phone that needs a phone-specific "plan" is a blackberry.

I expect that an iphone "plan" is cashing in on gullible iphone owners who think they will get more if their plan is "iphone specific".

The fact that ipads and iphone4s use a micro sim just reinforces this as not many people would want to cut a normal sim themselves.

The OP states that their iPhone contract is coming to an end so must have a 3G or 3GS so the micro sim problem isn't a factor, but I don't know if you need a specific iPhone plan.

In America AT&T put a block on using a 'normal' sim in an iPhone for data (but you can use it to text and call) however this can be got round by using an app which forces the APN settings.

thanks for the replies. the i phone i believe takes a 'normal' sim, the i phone is 18 month old now.
  • You will lose some of the functionality of the iPhone, such as visual voicemail, but that's about it. I'd suggest going for a 1 month "standard" sim contract and seeing how that works in your everyday use. If you don't notice the difference, you can then keep it. If it's a problem, you can switch up to the iPhone sim contract after 30 days.
In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move.
