Beware of Octagon Car Insurance

Don't always blame the insurer for this. Comparison sites are notorious for not passing your quote details over properly to the insurer, so when you click through to buy you need to check all your details again very carefully. This might well have been the comparison site's fault.
So Go compare, Compare the meerkat, and Quidco compare all sent the same incorrect annual millage to Octogon?!?!?!.
This is simply a devious tactic by Octogon because they know there is a percentage of people who rely on the technology working as it should and do not double check ...
Besides once you get you Octagons site you get:
CLICK HERE to buy or click here to check you details.
I can't believe people respond defending Octagon. Surely the purpose of these forums is to protect and educate people and not to wagyou finger and state it's your own fault for not reading the small print.

they have just refused to pay out on my car that went up in flames. both myself and the driver at the time had fully comprehensive insurance but they are refusing. they are unhelpful when you talk to them and are unwilling to discuss it further. all i got was the standard reply from the person on the phone, which she clearly read from her standard crib sheet. \avoid at all costs if i were you.0

Was the other driver driving under their own (drive other vehicle) cover? If so then your car was only insured 3rd party whilst in their charge. They comprehensive policy only covers their car not yours.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I had an accident in May 14 rang them to claim on my insurance and they turned around and said I hadn't told them I worked and that I had gained 3 points which I did the November before when I bought my new car and rang to change cars over. They say they have no recordings of these conversations but was told all will be updated on my renewal... Anyway ... I renewed my policy 1/05/14 had my accident on the 8/05/14 at 10:30 am informed my insurers once I was out of hospital and thought they would sort it for me ... No was their answer so I changed insurance companies and now they won't send me my NCB and have put my car under a category D even though I have had no payment replacement or repair on the car. They are also chasing me for unpaid insurance which they can whistle for for the way I have been treated!! It's funny as my accident was at 10:30am on the 8/05/14 I didn't receive my renewal document until 12:10 that afternoon so how was I to know what I was covered for as I hadn't seen my documents until I was out of hospital .... If I had known of these mishaps I would have phoned them and put them straight regarding the last communication I had with them in November ..... So yes DO NOT TAKE OUT INSURANCE WITH OCTAGON EVEN IF THEY ARE THE CHEAPEST ... JUST PAY THAT LITTLE EXTRA FOR A BETTER SERVICE!!!!!0

Apart from the AA washing their hands of you when you make a claim and expect you to sort it with the actual underwriter If you feel that is shoddy then yes its shoddy. I'm actually going through a claim with them now "Not us mate deal with <underwriter>"0 -

I have a whole list of formal complaints I'm about to send to them. Note that they do not have any social networking pages. They are so bad, when I renewed with them for the 3rd year they asked me proof of no claims. Took me a few conversations to get them to deal with it. I had to resort to telling them they have the proof of no claims so why don't they send it to me and I will send it back to them because they clearly are clueless!! Utter shambolic incompetence. I'd rather pay double than deal with this shower again. They keep non fault accident cases open too so they can charge a higher premium and then you have to battle. They are a true disgrace.0

So why renew with them for 3 years??? :think:All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0 -
I ended up insuring my car through Octagon for two years, not because they were good but initially as the car was a heap and was only meant to be temporary, they were the cheapest for my needs. At least that's what I thought!
After I signed up to pay monthly thinking it would be easy to cancel, I discovered that they use Premium credit to finance the policy. Well, trying to cancel either agreement was a nightmare so I stuck with them thinking I would just not renew.
A year went by and I informed Octagon when they sent out my renewal documents that I would not be renewing… Which they ignored and issued my documents and passed on the finance to Premium Credit. When I tried to cancel, even before the start of the new policy, they dragged their heels and informed me that i would have to pay a cancellation fee. As we are all very busy (and don't they just know it) I didn't have the time to fight it, so another year was spend with these fraudsters.
So, another 9 months later I decided I would send a non-renewal letter three months before the end of my policy by registered post hoping that this would be taken notice of. I then emailed them a PDF of the same letter 5 weeks before the end of the policy, again stating that I will not be renewing with them and I understand that it's illegal and my responsibility not to drive an uninsured car on the road (which is one of their excuses for carrying on your insurance!).
One week later I received an email saying they had noted my request and would not renew my policy. Happy days! I thought, but no :-( . 1 week later I received renewal documents, not only from Octagon but from Premium credit stating that my policy would automatically renew and I had to do nothing.
So again I contacted them, this time threatening that I would take them to court for harassment if they do not cancel the renewal agreement with both Octagon and Premium Credit. Within 24hrs (so they can act fast when they need to) I received an email stating that they will make sure that my policy with them (Octagon) and the finance agreement will not be renewed. No apology for the hassle they have caused but thanked me for my business.
I am now arguing with them for my NCD proof which has been going on for 2 months.
Lesson learned, go with a known insurer.0 -
I recently took a policy with this company by paying in full on my credit card. They obviously required my NCB so I sent it through the link provided in my email confirmation of policy. I then received a text message and email demanding my NCB 5 days later! I got in touch through email to explain this and was told they had received it and my policy had been updated. However, I now have a letter stating my policy will be cancelled on the 24th and there will be a charge of £50 on top! It even went as far as accuse me of committing a criminal offence at the end. I have again emailed and stated that I will seek legal action on any fees if the cancellation goes through as I have proof straight from the horse's mouth that it has been received. Hopefully this will help people, along with other replies, to avoid such a poor company and I'm just willing my next quotation date to come, although it may come sooner than expected!0
