Son is due to travel to Budapest next week for four days. He does not want to check in and want to carry a small backpack with him on the plane. I am wondering with the current restrictions whether he will be allowed to carry his toileteries, also he will have a razor blade and that I know, it's a no, no on the plane. Thanks

No toiletries or cosmetics or anything containing liquid are allowed in hand baggage.
Read list here and here

Thanks, but can you take your mobile phone and mp3 player on the plane? It seems you cannot even take a bottle of water with you.0

You cannot take fluids or gels THROUGH SECURITY. Once through you can buy what you like - including water - and take it on the plane.
There are no restrictions on electronics except that they have to go through the scanners separately
Of course that's the situation today, tomorrow, next week, next month, next year may be different0 -
at manchester airport 31/8/06 and jfk 15/9/06 our hand luggage was scanned with electrical items in them. it may be that different airports are adopting different procedures ....the checks were less 'invasive' than other times we've been through security (shoes being removed the exception in the UK )0

You can take safety razor blades on the plane. I was most surprised when I read that on the security notice as I waited in the security q at Stansted last week.0 -
From Ryanairs site-the 10kg is their rule-other airlines may differ
From 0200hrs on the 22nd September 2006, the UK Department for Transport has lifted the hand baggage size restrictions. Each passenger is NOW permitted to carry ONE item of hand baggage up to 10kg with maximum dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm. These dimensions include the wheels, handles, side pockets, etc.
However, please note that the restrictions on the carriage of liquids in hand baggage remains.
Customers must NOT carry the following items through security in their hand baggage:
Liquid cosmetics - However, solid cosmetics may now be taken in hand baggage
All toiletries
All liquids
All drinks
Cigarette lighters
No gels, pastes, lotions, (e.g. toothpaste, hair gel, drinks, deodorant, shaving foam, aerosols, etc.)
Hand baggage CAN contain the following:
Electronic equipment, including laptops, mobile phones and portable music and DVD players.
Prescribed medicines in liquid or tablet form e.g. diabetic medicines
Baby milk and liquid baby food (the contents of each bottle MUST be tasted by the parent)
All electronic equipment will need to be removed from the item of hand baggage and screened separately.
Pushchairs and walking aids will be permitted but must be x-ray screened and searched.0
