Sixt car hire Faro - are the any good?

Hi

I have booked car hire throught Holiday Autos collecting from Faro 8-22nd Aug. They have told me to go to the Sixt car rental desk to collect the car.

I have never used Sixt in Portugal before, does anyone know of anything I should be careful about? I have read some horror stories about car hire companies and have started to panic a bit!
I have taken out excess insurance just incase, but just wondered if anyone had used them before.

Thanks :D

Alternatively if you prefer you are more than welcome to contact me directly gary.coughlan[at]sixt.com

    Dear Gary

Thank you to you and your team for your quick and professional responses. It is reassuring to know that Sixt has such an efficient customer service that I so far cannot fault!

  • I am not sure about Sixt; recent family bookings at Faro through Atlaschoice was a) late and b) a car without aircon instead of aircon. Overall beware the 'cheap' deals - its a lottery as to what and when you get.

When we did the Algarve 3 years ago we booked through Holiday Autos and it was Sixt. We had no problems at all, quick and easy car collection and drop off, absolutely no worries at all. We'd paid for the additional insurance and this was noted by Sixt with no pressure to do anything else - when we went to Mallorca last year the local agent (different company) tried to convince us we needed more. The only problem we had was when we took the cars back on our last day we were struggling to find the petrol station close to the airport and though we might end up returning the cars empty, but that was our problem not the company!
  • Used Sixt in Alicante last year and was very impressed both with quality of service and pricing. Intended to use them again for this years summer holiday in Portugal but their 2 week cost for a small family estate in July/Aug is a lot more than we paid last year so am considering alternatives.

I've used http://www.economycarhire.com/ 5 times now and have never had a problem at all and also full excess is built in with no additional payment required.

I even had the misfortune to have an accident where the car was un-drivable; this was sorted out the next day with a taxi back to the airport to pick up a new car with no problems at all. Had the accident in the evening and by midday the next day I was back at the apartment (1 hour from the airport) with the replacement car. I would highly recommend them

Use the code wxyvfk for 10% off as well!

hi there just looked at economycar hire and got a good price for my upcoming trip to Alicante. However i noticed under the T & C it said personal injury and personal belongings were not covered and were normally covered by travel insurance. anyone know if this is the norm as I've never seen that before. their extra insurance seemed a good buy for 13 euros for 11 day trip to cover tyres, windscreen etc so think I will take that up. Please could someone tell me where to put the code as i've just been trhough a dummy booking and couldn't see where to put it. thanks

I have just booked a weeks hire today for £149 for a Megane Estate in June, from Faro airport.

Now when I go through to book the discount box is gone and the price has gone up to £180 for the week!! Only booked it this morning at about 11am.
