BTW folk keep saying "well how much is the free elect worth?".

I was going to see if I could do some calculations on how much electricity I have saved since the panels have been up. But since I only know what i generate and a number of kws on my supply line (just one number in watts, don't know whether its going in or out) my figures would be rudimentary at best (and I just know how much some of these high ranking money savers like that). So I will wait till i get 6 months of meter readings with the panels installed and compare them to the former 6 months when they weren't. I will try and post something end of the year.

But I am hoping someone will beat me to it, anyone up for the challenge?.

    Thanks Andy..

I think you'll find a 4kwp system will actually make around £45k in payments over the 25 years.

Agreed - I assumed when I read his post that he meant making £22,500 after paying back the £15,000???

Obviously that ignores interest rates on savings and inflation.

There are a couple of posters on MSE who have had systems for quite a while(over 2 years), and have export meters so know exactly how much the use in the house. i.e. Generated output less exported kWh = used in house.

Mcfi5 uses approx 500kWh pa in the house and yakky58 uses approx 1,000kWh pa.

    Correct Cardew.

What the system is generates in income has to be the total - the outlay.

    my current findings suggest about 1500 quid / year * 25 = 37500 - 15,000 for the outlay = £22500.

    There's no flys on you.

Good answer / quick response mate, and I may well be missing something.

But what were they using before. I need a comparison to work out a saving.

rough idea on earnings from pv
from germany roughly same latitude and sun conditions as the uk
if you want to see average earnings

Thanks for the link, i hadnt seen that one b4.

But I am sort of ok with the earnings thing. What i was thinking of is just for example:- Without the plant installed in 2008 I used x KWh from the grid and with the plant in 2009 i only used y KWh. If you see what i mean.

    Andy..

That might give you a rough idea of generated electricity used in the house. However if you have an export meter you know EXACTLY how much is consumed in the house; so you don't need a comparison of 'before and after' data.

If you generate, say, 2,500kWh and you export 1,437kWh(and get paid 3p for each of those kWh) you know you have used 1,063kWh in your house.

If you look at a couple of yakky58's posts he has detailed his consumption figures down to the last kWh - in a year he used 990kWh in his property.

Sorry again I might of missed something but I am going to work out how well one of these systems can save money anually a still need a typical years comsumption before the system was installed to work out how much it has reduced the annual elect bill.

One of us is getting the wrong end of the stick.:D
