I have applied for this but, although the house is ideal, there appears to be a hold-up with the building society (we have a mortgage) approving the lease. The company solictors have told me that they are negotiating with all the building societies but are having difficulty getting a decision.
Has anyone else had this problem arise?
Mine approved no problem who are you doing it through? Im doing it through A Shade Greener and they have their own in house solicitor who liaises with the banks and building societies, she was really helpful and when i had a chat with her she mentioned that theyre not having problems other than with one particular bank, but im not sure i should say which one on this forum;). My mortgage is with Natwest.0 -

No way would I buy a house with solar panels on unless I was receiving the FIT.
Thats one opinion but trust me there are lots of people who would where I live. There are now whole rows of houses with panels on them in these parts. Times are hard and not everyone has the luxury of passing on a 'free lunch', I certainly dont! And when leccy prices go through the roof, which they will one day, the savings will be even more for me.0 -
Seems people are cottoning on that to "rent a roof" is a very charitable offer from a house owner giving away the use of their own roof for 25 years with practically no income!!!!!
Have constantly recommended that if people are "renting a roof" that they should get a real proper income - try getting any of these companies to offer a minimum of £100 per annum. That will still give them a really fantastic return (probably profits from year 8 onwards).
Don't let them fob you off with any sob story that they are the "charity" theyt are not - they make serious money from you the "rent a roof mug"!!!!!
Regards
Here we go again - honest you have a right bee in your bonnet you dont you? Youre always harping on about that. We can all see through it by now beedydad, its just that nobody seems to want to say it, well i will cause i dont get intimidated by the usual suspects on this forum - hidden agenda or what? So how are we going to get them to pay us rent then when there are thousands of folk who are happy to have the panels on their roofs without charging rent???
Get real.
And theyre not fobbing us off, you make us sound as if we're naive. We know theyre making a profit and none of them are hiding that, but in the end so what? If companies didnt make profits we'd be in a right state of affairs.
Change the record, please.0 -

To be honest, I personally don't know anyone that thinks it is a good idea.
Seems to me to be renting your roof for a very low sum of money.
Not against the idea of solar panels - in fact I have just ordered some. But the idea of the FIT going to someone else makes the 'free' panel scheme look very unattractive in my eyes.0 -
Hi
For all those following the posts about my website that tracks the income of some real domestic pv plants:-
http://www.uksolarcasestudy.co.uk/
I have updated to include Fundire's monthly figures now too (thanks Jenny).
Will aim to get the KWh figures up by the end of the month for the benefit of the folks (like me) who don the anorak. Along with a FAQ for those setting up.
As usual if you have any suggestions would be glad to hear them.
Nang..Follow the progress of 7 domestic arrays at :- http://www.uksolarcasestudy.co.uk/0 -

Really interesting figures. Interestingly, it appears to be significantly ahead of the projected figures.0 -
Ours are, but they are rapidly going downhill this month at the moment - ranging from 1 kw to 13 kw in a day so far this month!!!!!!!!!! Just want the clouds to get blown away and some bright frosty days would be good.0

Very charitable of you. These are the mugs that they are hoping to get hold of.
After you Sir, I am not worthy I must make you lots of money.
Please use my roof for free for the next 25 years!!!!!
Glad you will make serious profits after 7-8 years and you and your colleagues live happily from the income generated as pure profit for the following 15 - 17 years.:rotfl::eek:0 -

I have no agenda other than to make sure that all aspects are clearly set out and any householder considering wanting to rent a roof that they fully understand that they are giving away their roof for 25 years.
Why shouldn't I put forward a suggestion that can help the householder to make a slightly better deal than as offered. I am on the side of the customer - how have a offended you?
I can see, as do others, that in a year or 2 people will forget that they are only saving £100 - £150 per annum off their utility bill (according to some that is on the high side!).
Don't forget that utility bills are likely to go up by 7%-10% over next year.... and ever upwards!!!
That could easily swallow any of the solar savings.
Then a householder would probabaly compair previous years bills to current/next years and potentially not see any difference in bills.
They may forget the deal they signed up for and then start regretting that they signed up for such a rent a roof scheme.
So i can see that the industry could be pilloried in coming years for this.
Regards and happy days0 -

I noticed youre thanked by the usual suspects for your post:D
The FIT payment will go to anyone who owns the system, as you know, but for those of us who can't afford to buy a system we can at least take advantage of the free leccy and as beedydad points out, prices are going to shoot up so the more savings we can make the better. As for you not knowing anyone who thinks its a good idea, ASG told me that they have now had over 70,000 applications through their website. As I said, theyre really popular up here where money is tight!0
