we stopped at Rugeley travelodge when we went in june, its about 16 miles from alton towers, we booked it then read the reviews on trip advisor, they were awful but when we got there it had all been refurbished and ther was a wetherspoons 2 minute walk away0

I stayed at the Travelodge at Ashbourne it was in a nice quiet area, not much around it in the way of shops or restaurants but if you just want a cheap place to stay it's perfect0

LIke princess Star we also stayed at the Ashbourne Travelodge, which was about 15 minutes from AT. It was not that easy to find, so if you are going there go onto the Marstons pub website and check out the Stepping Stones Pub postcode (which is next door to the TL) and use that in the Sat Nav. You will need to book 2 rooms as TL family rooms only accomodate a max of 2 adults and 2 children.0

You have to be careful doing this though because if the Recptionist or housekeeping staff realise you have more than the maximum number in the room you may be asked to leave. I remember reading on this forum before that a dad who had booked a double room In the Brighton TL instead of a family one for himself and his 2 small children was spotted by the receptionist when returning to the room and asked to leave as it was against fire safety regulations.0 -
We are also looking for a hotel near Alton Towers. I have heard that you have to pay for parking at Alton Towers - does anyone know whether this is right? I need to cost this in if we are to stay somewhere off-site...0

yes, you do pay to park at Alton Towers - its £5 per day -

Thank you.
It costs £200 more to stay on site than to stay 30 minutes drive away, so I just need to think about the pros and cons of staying on site as opposed to having to drive for an hour both days on top.0
