Alton Towers

  • Well we went to Alton Towers yesterday. No problems getting in with the voucher, they did not ask for ID. Weather was good. Park was busy. Was there from 10am to 4 pm and only got on 4 rides. Queued for 1.5 hours to get on Air. Smaller queue on Nemesis. All rides seemed to be troublesome with lots of down time and empty carriages. If we did again I would definetely buy fast passes for the 4 main rides, priced at £7 each. Allow you to more or less go straight to ride with no more than a 20 minute ride.

We went to AT in August and stayed at the HI Express in Stoke too. Hotel was great, really clean and very good value. We travelled with children aged 9,8,6,4 and we spent an awful long time queueing for Charlie and the Chocolate factory ride - almost an hour - which in my opinion, really was not that special. The Rapids was great fun and the queue was very fast moving. Hex was great for the older two, and again not a very long queue.

We are going back in October, staying at the HI Express again. Its really handy as it has a Harvester next door.

If you have time, we stopped off at Monkey Forest, which is 5 mins from the hotel. It was fantastic. The monkeys all roam freely and you get right in there with them - it was lovely - and a good afternoons visit.

Used the newspaper tickets. Had no problem but was asked for ID (driving licence Ok - doesn't have to be photo. We went yesterday and IT WAS DEAD! Longest queue 20 minutes for Air, 10 mins for Rita. No queue for charlie/nemesis/corkscrew/oblivion. Rapids we just stayed on. Going back this weekend as have pass to be used up but trying to track down a freebie ticket for daughters friend. Best so far is "pay your age" ticket from last weeks Sun (parent saved for me). She's 13 so only £13 for her to get in!

Does anyone know where I can get some free, reduced price or BOGOF tickets for Alton Towers? It's a bit last minute but I'm planning on taking SD and one of her friends there next Thursday/Friday. The long drive has always put me off but I've decided to just go for it and they'll love it!
I have the mind of a criminal genius. I keep it in the freezer next to Mother....
