Have you taken up any references, have you had more than one quote,
ask the plumber how long it will take him in hours and then divide that into the money.
Plumbers around here charge approx £25 per hour.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

we paid sometrhing like £1300 for labour for a total strip out and refit.
We supplied everything except the following
    -tile grout
    -tile adhesive
-few odds and ends to make taps/plugs fit

bathroom similar size to yours and that was in 2007

Seems reasonable to me. My bathroom was done in a week. A couple of guys at it so you could find out how long it will take and confirm you're paying for work to be done rather than by the hour

  • Sounds good to me too. We have been quoted around £2700 including tiling, although the bathroom is a bit bigger than yours and the job is a bit more complicated.

and you have a quote which I'm guessing is including materials whereas the OP has got labour only. Material element is going to add iro £ 400 to his price then if he has plastering and electrics to do as well then he won't be far off your number.

On average you are looking at 10 mandays for a bathroom but your "rather than by the hour" doesn't make sense to me. The OP has been given a price of £ 1,500 - thats a price for the complete job isn't it? Don't see your point TBH.

The point was to make sure the job is to have the work done.....

and not a charge for 5 days. If it takes longer than 5 days then the fitter may say "really sorry it took me 6 days so you'll need to pay me an extra day".
If he's light on work he may spin it out to ensure more money and work.

I note that you asked "thats a price for the complete job isn't it?" - I'm simply saying the OP should ask the fitter this very question.

I appreciate that honest and genuine fitters don't charge by the hour but it's something to be checked before starting or appointing.

    See the point now?
