  • Good point, hngrymummy.

I like the photo album, but I'm a sucker for Cath Kidston...

DS1 is 11 and we are still using a breakfast set he was bought - very useful, though I must admit I have a boxful of money boxes, curl and tooth boxes and various ornaments upstairs in the loft, they are good when they are little for decorating the nursery but afterwards -when my godson was christened I gave him money and a tshirt - I thought of practical as I opened my DS1 and DS2's bank accounts with their Christening money

I think that most people would appreciate a book of Bible stories even if they weren't terribly religious theselves. If they were completely anti, then there wouldn't be a Christening.

sorry just my opinion based on not many of the parents/children I know would appreciate it (perhaps a different social mindset), and I also know parents that have wanted a 'church' christening without being religious in the slightest and have no intention of taking their children to church ever again, same as wanting to get married in Church (not something I'd bother to do personally, got married in the registry office and no christenings for my 3 boys). If I'm buying a gift I'd rather it be something that the receiver will get some use out of otherwise I would feel I'd failed them and wasted my money.
    Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
    And now the final frame
    Love is a losing game

My sister was given a bottle of whisky for her Christening, it was to be kept for her 21st birthday.

not sure if it's appropriate these days, but it was certainly something that the person was remembered for 21 years later.:)

  • It is a good idea to give an inexpensive homemade gift for your boyfriend or husband. Planning a short trip or holiday together is also ideal for a gift on this lovely day …
  • A present I have given in the past is a set of coins for the year the child was born. These can often be bought as a set. It was always very well recieved.
Also a news paper published on the day of the Christening. This can be read on his 18th or 21st
