And you might have read that Santander is reported to be interested in bidding for Egg, which Citi is looking to dispose of.

Has everybody seen this week's MSE poll on the worst UK bank for customer service? Vote, everybody! Santander is already streaking ahead!

I still wish they could be given a real slamming on behalf of all of us who they have treated badly rather than a few little slaps on the wrist, though!

I understand your frustration but at least you have done the right thing by reporting them.

One big problem is that sites like this one, and the money pages in some newspapers, do an excellent job highlighting cases of poor customer service and faulty products but they keep this completely separate from the job of compiling best buy tables. So in one part of the site Santander appears to have the best bank account yet in another it looks like the worst.

To be fair, MSE does mention in its best buy section that First Direct is good for customer service. On the other hand it gives no warning about the perils of having a Santander account.

If a customer service rating were given next to each bank mentioned in the best buy tables then I imagine potential new customers might be deterred & Santander would not be pleased.

Well I had been thinking of getting a Santander credit card and maybe opening a current account but I'm not going to bother after reading all this.

Well, having been a happy Abbey customer, a less than happy Shabbey customer, and a 'its gone too far' !!!!!ander customer I've finally instigated the move of our current accounts.

After 22 years we are finally moving banks to First Direct. The last straw was not really Santanders fault; we lost out debit card on hols but, they have taken 10 days to replace it. Egg credit card was also lost and a replacement was delivered within 4 days of notification.

    I'd just had enough.

Moving from Cahoot to Santander only to get faster online payments... Happy with Cahoot for 10 years.

The move went bad. real Bad.

Only now just sorted out after 4 months. It ended with me writing to tell them that as I couldn't trust them with a chocolate bar I certainly couldn't trust them with my money so within two months would close my Cahoot and A&L accounts.

Moved the nto First Direct who are brill
  • I wish I'd seen this thread before I tried registering a Power of Attorney with Santander. I cannot get my uncle to a branch of Santander so we decided it would be best if I had Power of Attorney. Now it seems we've wasted our time and money. I keep sending the blasted POA and they keep sending it back. I wrote to Santander's complaints department and it was obvious they hadn't read my letter properly. I'm now waiting for yet another return of the POA with some other lame excuse and I shall then be contacting the Daily Mail! :(
