I am closing my A&L current account on Wednesday. Can't wait to get shot of the shoddy so-and-so's !!

Thanks, Onawing - a more anonymous troubleshooter in the papers is a thought.

I know from being a regular reader of her column that she doesn't handle anything that has been passed to the FOS. Duplication of effort etc.

She might have some sort of result in 2 months or so. I know from past experience that the FOS can take anything up to a couple of years. (They did a great job for me, on some miss-sold bonds, but Lord it took a while!)

The Wail on Sunday (sorry not a big fan or their 'journalism' -ahem), have been running articles, perhaps you could follow the link below and add to peoples experiences / complaints...(This is obviously in addition to the more formal action suggested above)...

Thanks, cloud_dog, I just did that.

Santander haven't got a complaints system that functions or that is contactable by phone anyway.

You could lodge a complaint to satisfy the financial ombudsman, then complain to them officially.

    Also:

You could picket and peaceful process outside your local branch like watchdog do sometimes. And complain to watchdog.

Santander = Bank from hell. IN BIG LETTERS on a placard.

I feel like doing the same myself

I asked the manager for the address of the POA department so I could chase them if they failed to contact me and he said I couldn't write to them as they only had an internal address. I asked him to phone them to expedite the processing and he said they weren't contactable by phone! Even within the bank, they can't contact their own departments! Unbelievable.

As I said, I have zero faith in their complaints department - it's run by them. The FOS have initiated the complaint already, fortunately - I said I wasn't prepared to deal with Santander's internal complaints procedures.

I can't imagine what it must be like to work for Santander at the moment. I'd be ashamed to tell people where I worked.

I had a problem with A&L a couple of years ago. Basically they messed up and blamed me. It took me 6 months to sort, 20/30 odd phone calls and finally a threat to write to the FO and lady in the times before they admitted it was all their fault!!

I quite often post my story on here when someone posts asking for feedback on this bunch of morons. I take great pleasure in knowing it will be read by hundreds. I'll keep doing this too!!

Best revenge I can think of I'm afraid, apart from move your money!! (saying that I do have their 6% current account, but keep the minimum in there to get the rate!)

cashferret, if its any consolation they also lost my hubbys ID. What is going on there????????????????????We were told it was due to clerical error!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After putting in a formal complaint (they also said he could send in further ID err I dont think so,) they sent a grovelling letter saying all his ID was eventually shredded something with Data Protection they sent a cheque for £30 but we havent cashed it yet as still not very happy.

I'd badmouth them on an internet forum that's read by thousands of their existing and possibly future customers. That usually does the trick.
