Vodafone Fraud!

Hello,

Have been on the phone to vodafone customer service with little luck.

Basically i had a call from the sales dept of vodafone. When going through data protection they advised the address details i was giving them were incorrect. This was not possible.

I have now logged onto my online account and under address details there is an address i do not recognise and have no idea how this has been changed.

I spoke to their customer service dept who advised that the fraud team are dealing with this and i should have a call back with 5 days and if not to call them back.

I am going to call back vodafone to request information about how and when it was changed tomorrow.

My concern is how this could happen in the first place.
Also what benefit could there be for the address to be changed if it was fraud.
My bill seem to be fine each month and has come out of my account no problem. I will go over my bills to double check this.

If anyone has any ideas that would be great.

Many thanks

is the address completely different from your own, or are there any simularities? As for vodaphone, perhaps they are just being over contious, how long have you been a customer with them? I assume you receive your bills online, and pay by DD
Trinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!
  • Completely different.
The address is a london one and im a few 100 miles away from there.
Been a customer for about 2 years and had my upgrade sent to my current address back in January so has been on the system.

I imagine they are and maybe some sort of admin error. just really bizarre.
And yeah online billing and paying by dd.

Its called 'Account takeover fraud'. Where someone changes your info so they can then upgrade and gets the phone sent to a drop address.

Someone would had to have your info to do it, they check everything when the address gets changed. Could be someone you know, or you may have had some paperwork go astray ? Do you shred all your old bills/statements ect ?

There's little point calling them until they've finished running their investigation, they won't have anything to tell you...
  • Hi

I suffered a similar experience, someone changed my address, requested a new sim card, activated it and ran up a phone bill of £3500ish over a 16 hour period.

Vodafone have now set up additional security measures on my account......

This is probably how the fraudster's got your information in the first place, it amazes me how many people will just give out information when somebody phones up claiming to be from their bank, phone company, etc.
I've given up trying to get my signature to work with the new rules, if nobody knows what the rules are what hope do we have?
