We bought a set of Circulon pans and frying pan after Christmas from Debenhams - they weren't the cheapest but they're worth every penny and still look good as new despite being used every day. I definitely recommend them.“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

No, not at all, I assure you, I've cooked on gas for years, well about 15 years as has my Mother before me and her Mother before that. None of us have ever given a thought to the bottom of the pan.
I agree about the utensils scratching the coating but other than that. Any will do just fine.
I've got stainless steel at the moment, I wouldn't have paid alot, I can assure you. Actually, I've just remembered, mine are from Asda, about the second up from the really cheap ones. Maybe about £12.00 each, something like that.0 -
Hi
I've got a few Tefal Jamie Oliver sets. My first was the stainless steel ones and more recently the cast aluminium ones. The latter are great, heavy bottomed, oven proof and you can use any utensil on the non stick. They come up lovely in the dishwasher and are easily washed by hand too.
My greatest buy was the stew pot, can be used on the hob and then transferred to the oven. Plus they've all got a lifetime guarantee. One of my saucepans recently started to have the non stick come off (no fault of my own). Got in touch with Tefal and they replaced it for me.
Mine came from a website, think it was called pots-and-pans.com or similar. They were cheaper than anyone else.0 -
I love boring everyone about my Circulon pans
They've had about seven years of heavy use and they are fantastic, still good as new. And I've used metal utensils (naughty) and it hasn't scratched them.
I did have to replace the frying pan very recently, but it did get seven years of absolute abuse and eventually the coating on the bottom started to wear very thin. I went out and bought the exact same one again.
I do also have two cast iron casseroles, one very large and one smaller. I find them very useful. No other pan is as good for making risotto or otherwise cooking rice, oddly enough.0 -
Cast iron pans are effing expensive and need looking after properly but of course will last several lifetimes but are truly nbg for someone with weak wrists. All good pans need to have a good heavy base regardless of the heat-source especially ones where you're using a high heat to prevent burning. I have no particular preference between steel and aluminium but hate, hate, hate with a vengeance those blessed "non-stick" ones.0

Thanks for all of your replies guys.
I've had a good look at the Circulon ones after the reply earlier and have found a set of 5 Stainless Steel Elite ones for £89.99 free del.
I will still look at other options too.0 -
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

i like my steel and copper stellar - not non stick and 15 years old and going strong (despite one being left to boil dry and forgotten for 3 hours!) Though if money were no object I'd go for allclad....People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.
