Toilet Overflow dripping again

  • Forget the nut for the time being.

You need to screw the white threaded screw through the arm towards the valve about 0.5cm.

    Then tighten the nut.

I'm a bit curious as to why your cistern seems to be filled with soapy water.
As iamcornholio has already been said, the cause can only really be that the ball valve is not shutting off. Thus allowing the water to rise to the level of the overflow. There are three possibilities. One is that the float is catching somewhere on the way up. The other is that the washer in the valve is faulty. The third is that the valve is adjusted wrongly.
If, when you lift the float, the flow of water stops, then it is the float adjustment that is wrong. If, when you lift the float, the flow of water does not stop, then the valve itself has a faulty washer. A sticking float should be self evident.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

If you flush and then hold up the ballcock does the cistern still fill? If so then the valve isn't shutting off. If the valve comes apart - shut off the water then take is apart and give it a good clean. If that doesn't work then replace it.

no it stops when I hold it up.
Its been replaced already from b and q it worked first time. Where is the valve? behind the white screw towards the blue top up tap???

    Read mine 2 up.

Turn the white screw so it goes up towards where the water come out into the cistern (towards the blue thing).

    Then tighten everything up.

Without that screw going up you are wasting your time with anything else.

  • Hi,

    well done.

I used to stay in a block of flats, and it bugged me when some of the overflows were overflowing, and the folks didn't seem to care, I've seen them in the winter during the frosty weather with big chunks of ice hanging from them, just a build up, jings if it had dropped on somebody's head it would've split them open.
