Is Dubai safe for a single female traveller?

It's my 40th in January and Im young free and single and would like to treat myself to 4 nights in Dubai for a bit of post Christmas sun.Thinking of going 14 Jan (arrive 15th), returning 19th but dates flexible if ex will have my children. Budget for flight and hotel is flexible too, as I've been saving my £2 coins since June, since joining this site!! So far I have saved £200 in coins (sitting in my cupboard, still need to sort out an account to put them in), I've also been doing a little bit of ebay, selling books and clothes and have accumulated £150 in my paypal account. I'd like to book something fairly soon and can match my savings so far by adding £350 from my websaver, so budget is around £700. Do you think Dubai for 4 nights is doable on £700? I don't really want to scrimp and save because this is a long overdue treat and I need to reward myself for the last 3 years of hell.
Also, my other concern is as I'm going on my own will I be hassled by Arab men (or any other men)?
Thanks Guys & ladies :j

I think it is one of the in places to go right now and there are some really fabulous hotels so you need to take all your glad rags. With regard to a woman going alone I should think it will be fine. Once, a long time ago, I was going to book to go to Morocco on my own and the travel agent refused to take the booking. As I understand it, places in North Africa are unsuitable for a woman on her own but I believe Dubai is a much richer country and you won't be assaulted by beggars wherever you go. Don't you fancy New York? My son in law want's to go there for his 50th birthday and an interesting man I once worked with told me it really is a great place to visit.0

I have been to Dubai and New York on my own, and in terms of safety and your budget, I would recommend Dubai.
As much as I love New York, Dubai was just unreal.
If you need any more info just ask! xGone ... or have I?0 -
frankly, yes. Its one of the safest countries around.0

I've been to UAE but stayed in the capital Abu Dhabi. Don't worry about hassle from the Emirati - they are very respectful. Around 80% of the population is Asian though and often earning very low incomes. Men far outnumber women and these Asian workers are often there to earn money to send home to their families in the Filipines, India, Pakistan etc. Many Asian shopkeepers sit out in the street and they did stare at me and a few guys followed me asking to take me out etc but there is no danger and they will leave you alone. I read that I was to tell them 'haram' which means forbidden in Arabic but they just laughed
A bit unsettling but flattering and I felt safe and crime is very low as punishment is harsh and includes the criminals photo being published in the national newspaper, I believe. I did find going through customs on my own I was asked why I was on my own!! But in a pleasant way. 0 -
Why go on your own when you can pay to take me with you? Please! :j

I love Dubai. Absolutely fantastic place. Went a few years ago and there was a lot of building work then. Apparently now there is an absolute load so be careful where you pick and ask about the building work around the hotels.
I'd say it's very safe for a single female in my opinion from where I went!
Have a wicked time! It's pucker!

I loved the UAE too - hot, didn't get to go on a beach but the corniche in abu dhabi was nice. Everywhere is so clean - when I returned to manchester the dirt, litter, smog, smell and greyness immediately hit me in a way I hadn't noticed before!! Don't need to worry about money being stolen from hotel room either as theft is very low!
When I was there taxi fares were very low! They are driven by Pakistanis and I wanted to give large tips but was told in no uncertain terms not to tip!!0 -
I went in Feb with my GF , flights was £300 with Air France check out their web site and we stayed here

Cost us about £500 each for the flight & hotel for a week but with you being a single travel that will be slightly more but £700 is definatly doable.
Taxis are cheap so don't worry about airport transfers ours cost about £5 to the hotel.
GOOD LUCK

I went in Auguat. My husband was working and left me with my 9 year old from morning till night. I felt really safe. I was happy to go to the malls on my own.
Came home really down, this country is so gray and grubby! Dubai is just amazing. If I could afford the life style that the hotels give I would move ther in a shot. Fab place.0 -
traffic jams worse than here...0
