Have you been over to the military moneysavers board? I believe that the Army pays moving expenses anyway.

Size wise you will be shocked at what you can get into even a small van, I've moved my sisters whole house in a 7.5tonner, the sprinter is MASSIVE for what you are describing. Unless there is furniture in there, a compact van would do it. A Transit would be LOADS of room.

Yup I have posted the same question there too. They don't pay for your first and last move, they pay for the trips inbetween, so that's out of the question!

I do have a bit of furniture too - I have a double wardrobe, PC desk, some drawers and a couple of DVD towers too.
Cost is £140 for van (standard transit) If you drive sensibly and not like white van man, you will easily get 25mpg++++++, which is £150MAX, and more like £100

Fair enough, I was told by my Mom's OH that it would need to be more than a transit. My Dad has also said that too - if we were to get a transit, it would more than likely mean two trips, someone follow up in a car or leave it at home and then pick it up another time, which makes no sense as I may aswell do it all in one go.

Whatever you decide to do to move your things, I hope you manage to easily and free from trouble.

I wish you a very safe and happy move and a quick settle into your new place :)

Thanks, I am sure it will be fine! I am sure one way or another it will all work out for the best. I just hope the OH is around to help. Going to be really weird being on my own in our house if he's not around! Ahh, it will be all fun and games! :D

Put all your CDs onto your laptop then ebay the CDs...

OK so that's a pile no longer going with you...

Do a couple of trips with two suitcases and a rucksack each way...

that's going to cost under £100, the money on ebay form your CDs should cover that.

    How MSE is that?:money:

Of course, if you could make some money in the time you would spend doing three trips between birmingham and glasgow, then work the extra hours and pay out for the pallet delivery thing.;)

I was considering doing the putting my CD's onto my PC and flogging them on eBay, I have around 300 CD's and about 400 DVD's!! I can't bear to part with my DVD's though. The CD's are all battered from previous moves, so I didn't think I would get much for them and in all honesty with planning all the wedding whilst hubby to be has been away, I just haven't had the time to get them all on there.

I have considered just taking all my clothes up in a suitcase on the train and then living out of that and then taking as much as I can up over various trips, but we will still need a van to take the wardrobe, drawers and PC desk and various other bits and bobs, so seemed pointless and just added to the overall cost!

I leave work on Wednesday, so I don't know where I am supposed to get work from? Ha. Otherwise, that's what I would be doing anyways!

Try asking a removal company in the area you are moving to, they may be coming down south for a move and might be able to pick your stuff up on the way back when they have an empty van

Good thinking, maybe worth a try!! :)

    Not legal, strictly speaking...

I'd look in the local paper for a Man With A Van and get some quotes.

    Perfectly legal and allowed.

As long as the OP does not make copies of the CD's and SELLS them she is allowed to put the CD's on to her laptop and sell the CD's as they are her property and not rental copies, meaning there is no copyright law breached.

Please look copyright law up before giving such mislead advice ;)

Go onto ebay and look for the guys who deliver motorbikes, will charge circa £100 to run the stuff up to Helenburgh (which BTW is not Glasgow, its a fair bit out, in fact is it even Helensbugh or is it Faslane you are going to?). Take your essentials up with you on the day and get them to collect from your mums house after you have gone ahead.

    Total cost £120.

Alternative is to get a price from a company doing airport transfers, what you have would easily fit into a 7 seater.

    Complete nonsense.

Ownership of the CD or DVD doesn't give you ownership of the copyright. If you're making a copy, you're in violation of copyright law. Simple as that.

Ripping a CD or DVD for personal use, as long as you own the original copy, is probably not going to land you in front of the beak, though - in fact the government were considering changing the law to allow this. Doing a rip then selling the original would still be prohibited, though.

Going to Helensburgh, I just said Glasgow as it's the next nearest city that most people recognise. It's 31.6 miles from Glasgow to where we will be living.

Thank you! Not long to go now, coming up to my last few days at work too - all of a sudden becoming very real! We have had a set back with the honeymoon falling through last week just 2 weeks before we were meant to go and had to book another one, but other than that we have done really well to get everything sorted! I just can't wait to get married now! :D
