Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Name Dropper Combo Breaker
Originally never knew about signatures, it was only after the chap from L&C added one ( which included a website link) that I added mine ( changing it some time ago when Martin released an article that I disagreed with)

I think that most of the now regular brokers/ ifas came on these boards after I did... saw I ( and latter others) had a signature , and used something similiar - some brokers came and took it a stage or 2 further .. some even to the point of abuse - albeit they usually did not lastlong or although strangely one ( repeating) abuser has actually benefited greatly from this site.

If we are all here to help & not tout.. then time to give them up altogether ??

  • I completely agree with you payless and am more than happy to keep my username and ditch the signature altogether.

As you say if weare here to help not tout then no-one should have an issue with it.
  • Are you not part of Phoenix IFS anymore? I thought they were appointed reps of the M&E Network? Do they not give you outsourced compliance support?

No, I'm not part Of Phoenix IFS anymore. Have tried to call you for a chat a few times but you must have been busy - just wanted to let you know what I was doing - Will tell you privately when your free.

    I am a Mortgage Adviser

You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. This signature is here as I follow MSE's Mortgage Adviser Code of Conduct. • Well, I like my username, and want to keep it. But not for the reasons you will be thinking. I just like it!

Yes we will catch up next week. I would get Phoenix to remove your name from their site ASAP if I were you.

The more I think about it the more I agree that it is most likely the best way forward, remove any reference to our professional undertakings.

It may also stop the increasing band of individuals who seem to make it their life's work to undermine and contradict the guidance given by the brokers/IFS'a on here.

Plain usernames (keeping the existing stats where appropriate which can be done) and no signatures. Removes all the suspicion and accusation of touting and ensures that everyone posts for the right reasons.

I only told them on Friday at 4pm I won't be writing anymore business for the foreseable, so it will take them a bit yet!

I am one of those who copied Payless's sig (although I have a certain panache, I am still a plagurist!!) and have to say that a sig should be short and sweet.

What about dumping any reference to our professional status altogether, but MSE publishing a list (possibly in a sticky?) of those members of the forum who are advisers once they have been checked out (perhaps on the FSA register?). Could be made very clear that Martin does not endorse us or our services, but could be a reference for members if they need it.

God forbid that it be seen as me trying to create a directory or something, but I do agree with Martin that people should be able to find out where people are posting from a position of experience and agree with those who feel that touting for business (overtly or otherwise) just damages the rest of us!!

    Just my thoughts

Hands up ! - I was told to copy Payless's signature when I first joined by one of the mods.

This has now changed to being something a little more succint! oh fancy word!

@Herbiesjp I think you may have invented your own fancy word. I do this all the time. It is the meaning conveyed that counts.
