Wi -Fi stopped working on mobile

I've got a new Wildfire and successfully set it up to use the wi-fi connection at home but after about a week its stopped working.

The mobile shows as being connected with the symbol showing as full and in the settings it shows as "connected" and speed as "54Mbps" with strength as "excellent" . . . .

but its not doing anything, it drops my location and shows no weather info and cant connect to the net.

If I shut down the wifi and turn on the mobile network it downloads and updates correctly but if I keep wifi and mobile network both on at the same time it does not work.

I have (on the mobile) clicked on forget and then re-entered the wep password and it successfully links up with the network but still wont work.

Any ideas what I'm missing?

Is there anything else I should be checking?

  • Yes; you should be taking the phone back to the shop as it's clearly faulty.

Have you downloaded any task killers or WiFi widget or APN widget etc these might be interfering with the connection. Uninstall all those things I mentioned. Use only the pre Installed power control widget and airplane mode / mobile network / WiFi widgets from HTC. Have you installed any location based autosetting apps that modify WiFi / mobile network access etc. Uninstall them. Some such apps are good, some are CRAP. Check with some one else's WiFi it might be your WiFi that is faulty. Switch off the WiFi router and switch it on and after 10 mins or so then retry after re entering WiFi details from scratch. Why are you using WEP encryption anyway it is unsafe supposedly, easy for connection / network to be hijacked. Use WPA2 or better stuff. Does the WiFi have proxy settings. Try different browser like opera mini etc.

Call tech support or return handset. But check what I said above first. Also froyo 2.2 update has been released today for the desire, heard it was released for the wildfire too, so check for software update.. go to settings, phone info, software, check update. Do update if you got it. Then see if it works, if not then discuss with tech support or return handset. Best of luck.

Does your home computer still work on the WiFi

Nintendo DS's can only do WEP, if there are any in the house then WPA is not an option as they can't use the connection then.

To be hohnest it's unlikey anyone will try and break it, there are way too many free or still set to factory default routers out there to make it worth the time.

    Thanks guys

Not really sure what was happening but it seems the pc crashed on the wife the other day and somehow upon restarting she set up a new network, which the phone was not connecting to

Its now working but I have two networks running which I have merged but dont really know whats happening.
