OP i'm not quite sure you understand about small claims. It is to be used as a last resort......basically when you're not getting anywhere with retailer.

IMO, the retailer has - so far - been more than reasonable.

You can try hudsons idea and see if they can provide a receipt that way. Not sure if theres anything that can be done apart from that.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

No, I have not paid for the report as of yet.

It is well documented over the internet, and the manufacturer has admitted the defect with a recall and extended warranties. I have every single one of the symptoms.

I am not getting anywhere with the retailer, they are being most unhelpful. I know and they know that I purchased this laptop from them. They know they should not have sold it. I have many emails to and fro, however we have been unable to agree on a satisfactory remedy to the situation.

Legally the retailer is (quite rightly) entitled to ask for proof of purchase; if you can't provide this then they may resolve it as a goodwill gesture but they don't have to and it will be £30 lost if you decide to pursue via the Small Claims Court. Plain and simple.

Otherwise, is the model only sold by one retailer? Was it only available for a short period of time? That might help although it's not proof as sale or date (it could have been obtained second hand or stolen).

Referring back to your original question:
I know that the SoGA does not require a receipt be produced, but a sufficient proof of purchase ie bank statement. I am considering submitting a money claim online, but would my word of mouth be sufficient proof of purchase, as I, myself know for a fact that I purchased this Notebook at that store?

In my opinion and according to the letter of the law, NO.

That's not acceptable proof, merely anecdotal. You need to get you own laptop inspected to show that the fault is inherent.

Our local computer shop did us a specialized report for £25 which we managed to get refunded from the retailer when we had a defective laptop.

Unfortunately if you don't have a receipt I'm not sure what you can do apart from try Hudsons suggestion and hope it works.

Thanks for the replies guys. I will leave it till Friday see what, if anything, Head Office reply, then go into store.

Failing that, submit a claim if its £30 lost its £30 lost. I think in future, I will buy everything on Credit Card and just pay it off straight away!

Im not too fussed wasting £30 as I've just got a free repair on a cooker, TV and an exchange on 13 month old laptop, along with £30 credit on my mobile phone for the useless network defaulting my credit file! Like I said previously I was about to throw this Notebook out the window, so even if they offered some out of court settlement vouchers to use in store against the purchase of another Notebook, I'd be happy with that.

Just curious, why haven't you contacted the manufacturer? I know that HP and Dell log all their units sold by serial number, even when sold through retail outlets.

Probably easier to go straight back to the manufacturer via their website.

    Have you even tried this.

Most do free collect and return as well.

You seem to have an amazing amount of bad luck with the electrical items you buy.
