Jof's from E-Bay made a huge difference to my old red Mondeo, much better, and longer lasting than any of Halford's products, or similar. I bought the smallest quantity to try it, 250 ml I think, and I've done the car twice on half a bottle. Carnauba is king for me! The result was better than going over it with colour restorer, then polish, I couldn't believe it. All the huffing and puffing I'd done in the past! Yes, it's a bit more effort, perhaps, but nothing drastic, and well worth it.

I use Meguairs 3 step system. Wash the car, usually twice to ensure it is clean, then use their paint restorer, polish & wax, great results. Available in the likes of Halfords.
  • with owning a red car you will find that it will always fade, as this is the most common colour to fade (thast why you see quite a lot of pink cars :D ) i own my own valeting company and can put you in the right direction of keeping your car red, as for carnauba wax that is on ebay :confused:  carnauba wax is a natrual wax that comes from a tree, it is that natrual that it is put on most sweets to give that shine (minstrels and M+M's some that come to mind) so if it is a natrual wax how can it be sold in bottles ??? , it can only be sold in bottles after it has had other things added to it so it is like a polish then so it is not 100% natrual wax then, it is sold in tubs and it is a solid wax this is what i use,

as for getting your car back to red the way and products i would use are as follows:

cut back the paint using a low cut polish, i use a product called mirror image, it has a fine cut in the polish

then i would apply a coat of carnauba wax this will give the car a very deep shine and will last for up to 6 months on the car (if looked after, by being washed properly (not with fairy liquid) with decent wash and wax)

then if you wanted to last even longer then i would apply a sealant and these can last up to 6 years (depending on what sealant you use)

but if you are after some decent polish's then take a look at my website, i have a full retail range on there https://www.stevescleenz.co.uk but if you need anymore info just email me and i will help you or anyone else out if in need of anything to do with car care

hope this is of some help to you :j

I'd agree with Jorgan, for newer vehicles, anyway.

But for older paintwork, you'll more than likely get a more than acceptable result with http://www.merproducts.co.uk Halfords sell it.

They have a range of products, but the polish is pretty much a multi purpose item - OK for glass, plastics which are shiny (not black trim though), your PVC windows -you can even add it to the water as a wash!

The detailing world link is most imformative & a great place for us strange people, that enjoy what many find a chore!

I consider the task of conditioning our vehicles as
    therapy!!

I cleaned my car today, and used one of those Meguar Detailing claybars. Impressive stuff. It does seem to catch quite a bit more dirt and is worth a purchase imo, even if it is £12! Do people wax after polishing, and does it make a huge difference?

Also what do people use to get rid of minor scratches? Do you just use T-Cut or something else? I also have a small car park ding in the read passenger door - are these easy to get rid of?

  • I use Zymol Titanium on my daily runner and the Concourse stuff on my toys.

Do an internet search on it. Not cheap, but unbeatable.

P51S is also very good for less money than Zymol; its gaining favour in the higher end of the trade because of its performance to cost ratio..

P21S all the way for my baby!!! Car is black and P21S makes her shine lika a mirror! Spent £35k on the car, so £50 every 6 months and several back-breaking weekends to wash, polish and wax the car are well worth it!!

    I get mine from https://www.carsparkle.co.uk

  • I use Autoglym Super Resin Polish, then Meguiars Gold Class Wax in a bottle (special import from America with carnuba wax inside).

Result after about 1hr30 of cleaning.

Then pull of the drive and its dusty again (with it being black) ;)

Poorboys Superswirl remover (3 grades) is good for getting rid of fine scratches and swirl marks.

    My method is:
Wash, dry, clay bar, wash, dry.
Paint restorer, polish, sealant, wax, wax.
